Of it werent for 8-1, I would've beaten this game a dozen times, at least.

I've only done it twice. Once with warps, once without. And the time without was on SMB Delux on GBC were you had unlimited continues.

Haven't played in years. I should give it another go one of these days.

Cheating would be to use a Game Genie to give yourself a helping hand.
Using a shortcut put in by the developers, or an item like the P-Wing if you still got one, is not cheating.

Man, I can't believe you haven't beaten that last ship. It's a little tough, but it's certainly doable. I'm sure if you save up all your powerups you could do it in enough tries.

I don't think I ever really used the cloud on much besides the last fortress in World 8. We had a guidebook back in the day and its directions for how to solve it made no sense, so we could never figure it out. I've long since found the path, though.

I love saving my P-ings for World 8. I've beaten every level at some point without a P-wing, although I don't know if I've gone fully through the game without using them. If you get them, why not use them?

Same here. I've beaten it numerous times, but not likely 100. I lost count maybe 15 years ago or so.
