Hello Board 8! Do you like playing silly card games? Are you tired of certain users saying games don't take skill and want to prove them wrong? Do you just happen to like signing up on board 8 tournaments just to job to other users?

After a solid amount of interest in a potential Hearthstone Tournament, I've decided to run it after asking it blankly in the discussion topic.

What's the Format?

I believe the best format for this will definitely be standard, if you're an older player who is trying to get back into the game and doesn't have their old Dr. Booms and Ragnaroses dusted, then I suppose I can allow for a potential side Wild tournament for those who demand it.

How will matches be decided?
I was also thinking that the best way to do this would be 3 out of 5, a Conquest style format where you have to have all 3 of your decks win at least one match (Aka Filling in a score card.) since most HS tournaments are decided by that. However, I acknowledge that there are users out there who do not have 3 decks that they find to be suitable to bring to a tournament event, so I'm trying to think of a medium that will allow players with minimal deck collections to still be allowed to have a fighting chance (Maybe a challengestone-esque setup which will allow for more creative deckbuilding?).

I've never played Hearthstone and I would like to try this out!

Well, I guess it's very possible for a starter player to do okish, so long as they have a gameplan (and maybe some money to spare). The 5 dollar Welcome Bundle is actually pretty good for this since you get a guaranteed classic class legendary (All of them are good except for one) and for the first 10 packs of every expansion you are guaranteed to get a legendary (Although not every legendary is playable) with some arena grinding to boot if you understand how limited works. Also, the first Old Gods pack you open will get you C'Thun, and the free mini Adventure in Frozen Throne will get you a free Death Knight Hero Card (Like Frost Lich Jaina, for example). It's definitely hard for a beginner to get into HS but Blizzard is at the very least trying their best to lower the difference.

Are there only prizes?

The only prize atm is glory.

What are good legendaries to consider crafting if I want to build something before this tournament?

Well, it depends on what you're playing!

I will however say that the following are among the most popular neutral legendaries right now:

Alexstraza
Aya Blackpaw
Bloodmage Thalnos
Cairne Bloodhoof
Kazakus
Leeroy Jenkins
N'Zoth, The Corruptor
Patches the Pirate
Prince Keleseth
The Lich King

and the following class legendaries

Druid: Fandral Staghelm and Malfurion the Pestilent
Hunter: None! (Although Deathstalker Rexxar is nice to have)
Mage: Archmage Antonidas (Frost Lich Jaina if you want to go deeper)
Paladin: Sunkeeper Tarim and Tirion Fordring (I think all are viable except for quest though?)
Priest: Raza the Unchained, Lyra the Sunshard, and Shadowreaper Anduin are all great
Rogue: Edwin Van Cleef and Shaku, the Collector
Shaman: Thrall, Deathseer
Warlock: Bloodreaver Gul'dan
Warrior: Fire Plume's Heart (And Grommash Hellscream too, good luck though)

When is the Deadline to sign up?

I want to give at least two weeks just to allow people to bolster their collections a little bit if they have interest or want to come back.

All matches will be best-of-5. The first player to win 3 games within the match is considered the winner of the match and advances.
Each player must submit decklists from three unique classes prior to each stage of the event. Players may submit new decks prior to each stage of the event.
A player must win one game with each of his three decks to win the match.
When a player wins a game, the deck used by the winning player cannot be used for the remainder of the match.
The losing player can keep the same deck used or switch to a different one of their choice.
Players will be told what classes their opponent has available, but they wont know which class is picked until both players have picked.

I'd consider a "ban" format for a 4th class (Where you choose which of the four classes your opponent won't play) but I feel that's incredibly unfair to those with limited resources deck-wise.

I prefer the 4 deck format with a ban myself, but i acknowledge why 3 might be preferable in this case.

Eh, basic set is pretty unbalanced. Even moreso since there were nerfs to War Axe/Innervate/Hex recently

Regarding 3 vs 4, it really doesn't accomplish anything to add a fourth deck unless you think it will force people to dumb down to weaker decks. After all, once they win with the deck you'd ban, it's not like they use it again. If you were using a format where you lost each deck that got defeated and you had to eliminate the other player, that's different, but I don't see much purpose in using a ban here. Certainly not when so many of us are worried about simply having 3 viable decks.

In the 4 vs 3 argument it gives people the option to ban out a deck they feel is oppressively strong. I think that is still relevant in conquest and not just in last hero standing.

I figured disclosing decks pre-tournament would be required, but was holding out hope it wouldn't so I could run Purify Priest, Quest Druid, and Demon Zoolock and watch everyone freak out that everything they mulliganed for no longer makes any sense. Now I have to actually play good decks. Bleh.
