I know some have a 5-4-3 system, others even having something between middle school and high school called "junior high" which just seems like an extra step added but imo.

To this day, I'm still confused by elementary, middle, and junior high school breakdowns as I went to a parochial school from grades 1-8, so switching schools wasn't a thing for me until high school

This. It would have been 8-4 (or 9-4 with Kindergarten) but the school ended up cutting 7th and 8th grade when I was in 2nd or 3rd I think.

When I went to school it was K-6, 7-9, and 10-12

Now it's K-5, 6,8, and 9-12

I don't know why they changed it

Problem these days they expect the wee children to learn too fast.

Like they're trying to push them through school.

That doesn't work for everyone.

I think that doing 6th grade in middle school is way better than in elementary. Elementary school treats everyone like babies, better to give them more responsibility earlier

Jr High is just middle school but with 2 years instead of 3 or 4. Instead of, not in addition to.

Two years of kindergarten (Junior and Senior Kindergarten)

Six years of elementary

2 years of junior high

4 years of high school

IIRC it's changed since I've graduated but I don't know how.

Though going by the different school buildings the grades were taught, it was 1-3-1-3-5 (4th grade was in its own school building).

I did 7-1-2-3

my elementary school went to grade 6 and my family moved. the middle school was 5-7, then junior high (which, for some reason, was only people from that middle school. don't know why it worked out that way). then 10, 11, 12 was high school

So i'm assuming that everyone saying 5-3-4 is actually saying 6-3-4, which is the norm when you include Kindergarten.

I thought middle school was jr high?

Mine was very much a non-standard experience, but

4-3-1-4

The school system where I grew up had 4 elementary, 3 middle, 2 jr high, 3 high.

It was complicated because obv there are 4 years of high school but they school system had grown in numbers beyond their capacity, which is why they built the 8th and 9th building they called the jr high.

But then I changed school systems after 8th grade.
