There are 866 muthafuckin moonshines.
Some moons you get count as 3, so there are 836 to collect.

The count may change a little bit but it's Korok Seeds all over again. That's more than triple the number of blue coins in Mario Sunshine.

I think that goes to show the amount of content in this game. Korok Seeds were collectables on top of the large amount of content in the game.

At least the moons are the main focus of the game right?

Yeah. But from what I gathered from E3 videos, I think these moons will be collected much faster than Korok Seeds were. I also believe people are beating the final boss a lot faster than they first did in BotW. But there seems to be a ton of post game gameplay.

Koroks were totally useless space-fillers for the giant world. Really hope Mario doesn't have to resort to that. It looks like the world is reasonably sized so these collectibles will probably be pretty nice.

Is there a concrete source on this, like an actual leak or review copy or something? I did a little digging and just turned up what was largely guess-work and supposition, chunks of which had actual evidence disproving it.

Some shops have broken street date and the lucky buyers have been playing for a few days now. The ending has apparently caused some controversy, though I didnt look into details.

I saw an excerpt from Edge's review that said there were nearly as many Moons as there were Korok Seeds so this is most likely legitimate

Based on the demo I just played, a lot of them are just quick grabs, like one where you capture a Bullet Bill and crash into a nearby crate, or another where you grab a Bill from the same launcher and fly to a nearby pillar, but there are more significant ones that I assume will be the ones you need to progress.
