Board 8 > Fire Emblem Warriors is extremely blatant about cutting characters for DLC

Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic game if you like musous. But they didn't even try to hide the fact that they blatantly locked characters out to sell them as DLC.

Twice, now, characters have joined the party, story-wise, but just aren't playable... Despite joining in ways that are basically identical to other playable characters. It feels like literally all they did was go "Eh, take out that "___ is now playable" notice and lock them for dlc."

It's kinda infuriating.

Eh, to be fair, I don't remember any Warriors games before this being so blatant in holding stuff back. They tend to have a good bit of DLC, yeah, but nothing so blatantly "We purposely made this character unplayable so we could sell them."

Well, it's weird.

Like, it doesn't feel like they cut corners or like it's light on content

But Oboro and Owain, for instance, feel like they were very clearly made to be playable, and then had a padlock slapped on them at the last second. They join your party in the story, have obvious "Join the party/officially become playable" moments that are extremely similar to how other characters join you (Lucina/Takumi), but then... Just aren't playable. And it doesn't feel like they're incomplete or anything, since Owain at the least even joins you in battle as a guest.

More good reason for me to have ignored the existence of this game. I essentially refused to ever play it when the original roster was released and all they had were sword users. Eventually we got more... but meh.

See? They totally were meant to be playable and then it changed at the last second

It's also what makes me think IS is the one that said make them DLC, since it was definitely a last second change that hadn't initially been planned

I guess the other thing that bothers me is that the only non-main characters are Lissa, Frederick, Tiki, Cordelia, and Anna. Every character except Azura and maybe Minerva in the DLC are non-main characters. And I've always been a much bigger fan of the supporting cast than the main characters in a FE game.
