Eh, I dunno. Pokmon is a merchandising monster and with Pokmon Go I could see it having surpassed Star Wars.

I would assume Star Wars only for the fact it's been around longer and it's had more consistent merchandise. The Pokemon games obviously outsell the Star Wars games, but none of the films have done great business. The only knock on Star Wars might be that it hasn't consistently had tv shows, but despite that it's always sold merch pretty well.

I somewhat doubt that. While Star Wars is a bigger box office draw, Marvel has *far* more films. Plus at any given moment, Marvel has 2-5 tv shows going which allows it to sell a *lot* of merchandise (except for Agents of Shield). The only aspect of the company that's kinda floundering is, ironically enough, the actual comics

i figured pokemon becausw theres like 20 million games(not including spinoffs like pokemon stadium or whatever) then the cards

I find that surprising. I assume that's from wikipedia? At any rate, the Marvel bit seems off considering they must have done more than 15 in just the past few years, as they've had multiple movies which cleared over a billion at the box office and many more which almost hit a billion.

Considering that we haven't seen *that* much new for SW since TFA, I can't imagine it would change drastically. Rogue One came out, which made a billion, but I can't think of many other major things.

Purely from box office totals Marvel is bigger than Star Wars. Actually making movies is one of the least efficient ways of making money off a movie franchise. Action figures, LEGO sets, trading cards, phone cases, and countless other random trash are where you make money and that's where Star Wars has been killing it for decades.

What allowed Pokemon to do so well is that it is absurdly popular in Asia. Star Wars is quite popular in Japan but I don't think it has much truck anywhere else. I don't know anyone over 12 years old in Korea that cares at all about the franchise and even amongst children Marvel and Pokemon are a lot more popular.

Literally all of that is also true of Marvel. And, in fact, Marvel has been making toys and lunchboxes longer than SW.

Also worth mentioning that Spider-Man got his own tv show in Japan in the 70s, which is a little amazing for any number of reasons... and the show is even crazier than you thought.
