I remember in the 90s, there used to be something worthwhile on TV almost every hour of the day. I could get home from school at 3:00/3:30 pm and watch TV until 10:00 pm. Even in the summer, I could watch something interesting starting from about 10:00 am.

Nowadays, there's too many talk shows and game shows and reality shows. The primetime dramas don't seem that compelling either.

I probably watch as much content, just via different mediums - e.g. YouTube channels and Netflix and Twitch.

The irony is that now there are several retro TV channels that mainly show movies and shows from the 80s and 90s, so when I do watch TV I prefer to watch those than new programs.

TV is an outdated way to watch things. Being forced to watch on the network's schedule, with commercials, and paying for it on top of that? Lol fuck that. Netflix has you paying much smaller amounts to watch what you want when you want without any commercials

When people say TV used to be better, what did they watch? The only thing I watched in the 90s was cartoons. The only thing I remember airing that I would want to watch a lot now is nature documentaries always on Discovery.

It makes me sad that people used to be exposed to that stuff by chance because maybe nothing else was on and everyone watched TV all night. There's some educational TV now... but I don't think anyone's watching it. It's crazy that something like Carl Sagan's Cosmos has a total viewership of 600 million.

The Orville

what do you think of it? i like it a lot better than Discovery. Seth MacFarlane has won me over, it's a genuinely good spoof with a heart of its own

Sitcoms were great in the 90s too. Seinfeld, Drew Carey, Fresh Prince, Married with Children, Home Improvement, Full House, Family Matters, The Nanny, Martin, Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, Boy Meets World...

I also liked PBS shows like Carmen Sandiego, Ghost Writer...

In order to have unlimited data with AT&T on our cell phones we have to have their cable as well. We watch Walking Dead and movoes but other then that it's just there if we have run out of stuff to watch on Netflix or Hulu.

I watch very large amounts of television. Far too much. Dozens and dozens of shows each year. Well over a hundred if you count old shows I still watch.

I watched the first season of The Deuce, and I watch Curb on Sundays, along with Last Week Tonight (the beginning for sure, sometimes tune out if the main story isn't interesting).

And I watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Tuesdays, along with Great News on Thursdays (though that's on fall hiatus as of last Thursday).

But yeah, that's about it.

Such as which?

I looked at the list of new fall shows weeks ago and almost none of them looked worth watching. All I watch is The Gifted and The Flash.

As you can see I watch a ton of terrible television. But there are a few shows that are actually really good. Like the Good Place and Blacklist. The Orville was a surprise.

That's just the network stuff. There is way too much on cable to list it all. And a lot on Netflix as well, like Master of None, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, etc...

Lots of NBA and NFL. Kickboxing and MMA. Literally anything on HGTV except for Tiny House shit. I'm tired of tiny houses. DDD, Carnival Eats.

There are also shows that I don't currently watch, but will check out soon. Like Lethal Weapon and Ghosted. Lethal Weapon, because it's supposed to be surprisingly better than expected, like The Orville. And Ghosted because I love Craig and Adam.
