Did you know that only America and Canada celebrate Halloween?

It's true.

Only Canada and the United States celebrate Halloween who do trick and treating...no other country, not even westernized ones, celebrate it. That's why Halloween movies are so rare and aren't often made for worldwide theatrical release because it wouldn't be so popular in international countries..

A lot of other countries also celebrate it. The idea that it's NA only is absolute rubbish. It might be a bigger thing in NA, but it's not solely a NA thing.

Also not true. Horror is generally a more niche market which is why horror movies tend to lag behind in terms of international releases.

Other countries are starting to do it and sell Halloween junk in stores but not to the same scale as US. Kids like free candy everywhere, apparently.

Halloween was a pretty big deal whenever I was there at the time in Ireland. Not like the US with treats, but a lot of people put up more traditional decorations and there was always a festival in my grandparents city.

It was Western Ireland though, which is a bit more "old school" when it comes to religion/tradition than, say, Dublin.

Halloween originates from Ireland actually.

why would companies try to kill off one of the bigger commercial holidays? halloween brings in shit tons of money for companies. I think christmas might be the only holiday that rakes in more cash.

because halloween is just candy and costumes...plus haunted houses

christmas is everything....You'll see christmas promoted several months in advance and even steal halloween's spotlight on october 31 with adverts

but you won't see halloween promoted long in advance

it still makes a lot of money, and doesn't harm christmas sells in the slightest.

from what i'm seeing its over sensitive asswipes trying to kill halloween cause everything is offensive these days.

i'm just waiting for Wiccans to start claiming dressing up as a witch is offensive because "its a religion not a costume" but so far they've actually been cool about it.

Very ignorant claim. Don't make statements like that when you know nothing about a subject.
It may not be as big in Australia as in America or even Canada, but people here have Halloween parties & kids are tentatively starting to go out Trick or Treating. I personally love it & hope it continues to grow here.

Considering that companies are discouraging employees from saying "Merry Christmas," Christmas seems to be hit harder than Halloween.

Not anywhere I've seen in my lifetime. It's possible that it may have been celebrated in the past because the US had a lot of British immigrants.

Hallowe'en isn't celebrated here in Australia officially but in some areas it's gaining traction.

A recall one of my old teachers (who was from Britain) telling us how when he was a kid people (in the town that he lived in) asked for money on hallowe'en not candy. XD
