I downloaded the Discord app on my laptop, but I'm not really happy with their presentation. Instead of telling me bluntly how to set up my mic so it freaking works, they're making a bunch of forced jokes. I can't seem to get it to work, and I tried everything including updating my browser. Youtube videos aren't helping, and neither is google. I went to my system preferences and I know that my internal mic is working.

Is there anyone who can tell me how to get it to work? Do I need a proper headset, or can I use the internal speakers on my laptop or the earbuds that have a mic in them? Please help.

I have the app. The leader of the Destiny 2 clan Im in recommended it, but he doesnt even use it as far as I can tell. Thats all Ive used it for so far, so I dont have much experience with it.

All I know about discord is that I hated its UI. Didn't seem very intuitive at all to me.

Are you using the desktop app or browser? Are you sure your mic is set as the default input device? Can you change which input device discord uses?

There should be someplace in the settings where you can select what mic source you want to use.

Just loaded it up and it's,

User Settings < Voice & Video

At the top of the section should be "Input Device".

I just found out you need a certified mic to use discord. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Actually I have a MacBook Pro. My earbuds have a mic in them.

I don't even know what that is but both of my mics work on it.

All right, is your mac registering the fact that there's a mic there?

Also, are your earbuds plugged into a microphone in input, or a headphone jack?

Discord has been pretty great in my experience. We're far away from the days where somebody needed to pay for a Ventrilo Server.
