I don't like a lot about the overall anime-to-hell-and-back aesthetic but characters seem ok so far and you really can't argue with that combat system.

Of course I'm still in the first dungeon. It's taking a while to get through. Is this going to turn out to be a dungeon crawler? I'm not a particular fan of those but I do like this combat a lot.

I remember being under-leveled towards the end and basically having to start over.

I take it there's some sort of point of no return? Or some sort of difficulty threshold you can't go back across?

I'll try to keep my levels on the higher side to be safe. Which I generally do anyway since I'm a total Scrooge with healing items.

You definitely need to level to hell and back in that game. I think there's only 2 true "point of no return" moments, and the first one isn't that big a deal. However, the second one is fucking GG no RE if you fuck it up. You're stuck in the final dungeon with no way to heal or buy items and no way to leave.

Protip: You can buy Starlights later (light MP restore items) but IIRC you never can buy Silverlights (full MP restore items). Those become especially precious in later boss fights.

great game
the only problem is of course is how weak the mages are

you get 5 party members
you use alex and kyle to deal physical damage
jessica heals your characters

and then mia and nash just stand there doing nothing because their spells do like single digit damage against bosses

i like lunar eternal blue better
fun fact, lucia is with you for the majority of the game but is computer controlled and doesnt have levels
but her level is actually a hidden stat and its lalways the same as the main characters so when he gets stronger so does she.

plus eternal blue has everyone be useful in battle not just 3 out of the 5

Actually one thing most people dont realize about SSSC is the bosses scale with Alexs level. So grinding doesnt give you that much in returns

It's not as dramatic as you think and I always found there were a few points I HAD to grind.

BTW I love the soundtrack to this game. 10/10.

IIRC it always gets to a point pretty quickly where you can't really level up reasonably any more until you get to the next dungeon. It's very difficult to over level in that game, you're pretty much always just right where you need to be.

Every time I've played through the game I've had to grind a little in the garden area before you fly off to the Red Dragon Cave. If I remember right, you get locked in that cave so if you're too low you're fucked. It's been a long time, however, so who knows.

luna is with you longer in the ps1 version
in the sega CD version she leaves the party once you board the boat. the playstation has her go with you for a little longer.

ive never played the sega CD version of lunar 2 but i hear that its the better version of the 2 games

Mages are only weak for boss fights, at which point Nash becomes a functional buff bot and Mia becomes your backup healer with items. For regular fights, Nash an Mia eventually just auto win everything by spamming AoE spells. This becomes an even more viable strat once Alex gets some of his Anger spell.

DevsBro posted...

The exact opposite. While leveling Alex will strengthen bosses, NOT leveling Alex (by speed running and avoiding fights) results in you not having access to higher strength spells and attacks. All bosses have minimum stats regardless.

Isn't this the opposite? Mia has the buff spells and Nash just becomes an item bitch (with the occasional Thunderbolt).

Yeah, might have it backwards. They're basically interchangable other than that lol, Think Nash gets the useless status spells instead of buffs

The AoE Sleep spell is useful.

Endgame Nash though is pretty reliant on finding the Ghaleon's Tear secret item. It lets regular attacks hit all enemies and his ultimate weapon is a bow with a pretty good chance of instantly killing it's targets. So, it makes him a great trash mob killer.

In boss fights though, Nash is easily the least useful party member. Load him up with Starlights and let him keep everyone else's MP up.

Mia will basically play buffbot, Jessica will heal, and Kyle and Alex will kill the boss. Alex can also use use White Dragon Protect during the boss fights to immunize your party from the worst enemy spells. Its worth saving Silver Lights until the last boss fight to keep White Dragon Protect up.
