Havent watched SNL since the early 2000s...just isnt funny. Happened to watch Weekend Update last week and it was nothing, but Republican/Trump jokes. The funniest part was Every Boxer Evers Girlfriend and that wasnt even that good. SNL has really gone downhill since the 90s.

see now i can accept that the quality has gone down,

but the criticism seems so insincere when I

A) Know that the person criticizing is a Trump supporter
B) They specifically mention that the Trump skits are what brings it down

it just very transparently comes across like they're simply complaining that the show makes fun of a politician they support

Lol, can't stand when your precious liberal media is attacked, can you? Face the fact that the show has gone to shit and can only rely on political humor to stay afloat.

for a group that likes "trolling" and makes fun of "triggered" y'all sure are quick to anger, jeez.

i mean the show's been having its highest ratings in years

i personally don't watch or care about it, i'm just saying when trump garglers criticize it it comes off as insincere and comes from being unable to handle a politician they like being made fun of.

My problem isn't them making fun of Trump, it is just because they are so patheticly liberal now. The last episode I watched was the one after the election with that sorry ass Hillary singing Hallelujah opening and the only reason I didn't shut it off right there was because Chappelle was the host.

so your problem is definitely that they make fun of trump then

i mean

a) Leonard Cohen died just before that episode aired
b) Clinton's career died just before that episode aired

That was the logic behind it

Y'know if something that simple gets you so upset it's a wonder you can watch any television or movies at all lol

It upsets me because as a fan of comedy this political stuff is just weak low hanging fruit. No one will remember this shit in 10 years.

I mean I said I don't watch the show lol. Never have.

I guess I know of:

"General Franco Francisco is still dead"

Phil Hartman as Reagan. Specifically the skit where he plotted the Iran Contra Affair while people were coming in and out of his office while he flipped between being a devious schemer and an affable cuckooheaded old man

Chevy Chase as Ford (and the recurring gag that he fell down a lot)

Will Ferrell as Bush, specifically the campaign 2000 commercials

The Hallelujah thing was tasteless imo. They were just using Cohen's death for their political agenda. Didn't help that it was just cringe inducing in general

The worst part was that there wasn't a punchline. It was 100% serious

I did not lol, I just have a father who's a fan so growing up I'd see/hear all the older stuff.

Even if I did google, wouldn't that still prove the point that clearly these skits and impressions are still remembered

Its just a lot of lowest common denominator humor with trump skits nowadays. SNL has by no means ever been high brow, and Im assuming ratings are high because of the political humor, but I do feel like SNL is a shadow of its former self and is using whats popular to stay relevant. Its not as on point with its other skits. SNL has always been political, but how many of the most cherished skits from its golden days were political compared to todays?

SNL these days can't do humor as well as it did before. Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer sounds like the stupidest thing on paper, but someone with the caliber of Phil Hartman made it a classic sketch.

Tbh that was kind of boring. It dwelled a little too long on bits that just weren't very funny. Felt like a watered down "Weekend Update".

Like, Trump ordering Pence around at various sports events over pointless crap could be its own skit. But it was just so boring here. Only barely saved by the actor playing Pence. >_>

I gave up when he was rambling about the quarter. <_<
