I don't agree with this.
I understand companies need to make money, but you can do it without going to this extent.

Also, 40 hours is way too much play time to unlock one character.

Tell me, would YOU Play around 40+ hours to unlock these "powerful characters"?, 40 PER character?, Let's just say there's 10 characters in the game to unlock, 40 per character, would be 400+ hours, Why would ANYONE want to put THAT much time into a game like this?, They wouldn't, and that's what they want, for you to not want to spend that much time playing, and thus buy Loot Boxes so you can get the currency that way and buy the characters quicker, even then, I doubt you'd be able to get all the characters just by buying a FEW boxes.

EA just isn't doing a good job of hiding their blatant greed here, They technically don't want you to play the game, they want you to buy the game then buy hundreds if not thousands of dollars worth of Microtransactions.

If the characters could be unlocked in different ways, like say, Character X is unlocked by completing Y Challenge, or even you unlock a Multiplayer character by completing the games Story mode, that's fine, I doubt anyone would complain, but this nonsense is ridiculous, SORRY for calling them out on this, I guess we should all be quiet and never complain about the shit devs are trying to pull these days?.

Imagine if in Smash Bros. if Mario, Link, Fox and Pikachu were locked behind dozens if not hundreds of hours of grinding, and you start out with only Mii fighters, Jigglypuff and Ganondorf, but you can speed up the process by spending additional money on top of your game purchase to get those characters.

It's kinda like that.

Why do you only specify those characters? Is it because Smash does have other characters you have to grind for to unlock?

Most Smash characters are unlocked through story mode or some other random requirement that's fairly straightforward. The few that require grinding don't even require that much. Certainly not 40 hours for each one. Maybe not even 40 for the entire roster.

Just don't buy the game. Make it an even worse disaster than the first Battlefront.

Name one other $60 game (not free to play, $60 to get in) where paying more money to unlock things is faster than playing the game. It's more efficient to work a minimum wage job and spend every penny on microtransactions than to just play the game. Do you seriously not see a problem with that?

There's an entire gamemode, Heroes vs Villains, where it's a 4v4 mode, where all you can play as is iconic Star Wars characters, like Darth Maul, Yoda, Han Solo, etc. So, yes, part of the Battlefront series is indeed about playing as iconic characters. Even if you forego that, the Galactic Assault mode allows you to play as those characters if you score enough points. It is very much a part of these games.
