The first one you play is a great trip down nostalgia lane with a refreshing breath of new ideas, new angles on old ideas and plenty of polish.
The second one you play is pretty much a level pack for the first and you find yourself greatly disappointed. I have never bothered with a third, for that reason. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

The first one was very refreshing, and NSMB Wii and NSMBU were at least fun with friends. Pretty much this. NSMB2 didn't really add much to the series. NSMB started it all. NSMBWii brought the Koopalings back into the limelight and made them relevant again. NSMBU has baby Yoshi power ups and Nabbit which are nice additions to the series. --- It's amazing how people hang around message boards of games they don't like ... Copied to Clipboard!

The first one was a fun, if safe, stroll down memory lane. It had been 14 years since a true 2d mario game was around. Seeing commercials for it in 2006 got my attention and made me want to get a DS.
NSMBWii was had the interesting gimmick of multiplayer coop and the reintroduction of Yoshi and the Koopalings. It was also fun and very chaotic when playing with four people. So much joy to troll others in coop mode. After that, the NSMB games pretty much lost all their appeal and luster and became lazy uninspired platformers. ... Copied to Clipboard!

The problem is that New Super Mario Bros. as a concept can and should have only happened once. The idea was "Hey remember the old Super Mario Bros games? Well theyre back after so long, and it's all new!"
Like, once they brought the concept back or wasn't "new" anymore. After that they should've just thought up new ideas/artstyles/settings/etc the way they did with the original SMB games. Also as someone already said the BAH-BAH noises in the music were a fucking travesty with how far they took them. It's a shame. The original DS game is legitimately one of my favorite games of all time. Then they decided they could make a quick buck off of them, saturated the hell out of it, and now everyone is sick of it.

I adored the original version - Great game, especially the vs. multiplayer everyone would play in school.
I sort of felt disappointed by the Wii version since it was basically a rehash, but hey, the multiplayer was great anyway. One of the games I could get any casual family member to play. I foolishly bought 2 a few years later and was even more disappointed. That game added nothing and used coins as filler. I never bought U. All the games have really good game design, but... that's about it. It's hard for me to replay/revisit these games because I get so bored with the theming, music, etc. It's too bland for me. --- I don't even know anymore. 3DS FC: 2320-6426-2982 | Pokemon Sun IGN: Tab ...
