Holy shit I cant stop thinking about it. Its such a beautifully shot movie and the acting was great. Im a sucker for horror and 1600s New England as well. The music was tight as well. Id say its my favorite horror movie since The Shining.

I admire them for going down the ye olde english speak path, but it made the movie quite difficult to follow at points, imo. Like it took me out of the suspense because I was just thinking "ok, what the fuck did they just say"

And that's why I always have subtitles on every movie I watch. Ensures I don't miss anything.

Also yeah, The Witch is fantastic, I should rewatch it since I own it.

I didn't care for it.
The cinematography is great, but other than that it was really boring.

It was so exciting to me. The tension and mystery was more exciting than the way any stupid superhero movie is supposed to be exciting.

I think Im gonna watch it again this week.

I pretty much have to put subs on for any movie with English actors. I just cant pick up what they say very well.

More people should use subs. My older sister is deaf so I got used to having subtitles/closed captioning on always and I don't even notice how much they help until they aren't there. like someone says a line and either due to accent, delivery, poor audio mixing, etc. You miss it and then either just ignore it or go back which is annoying.

Ending spoilers

I was reading about how some people found the ending empowering/inspiring and saw the movie's themes centering around that.

However I just found it incredibly creepy and unsettling. Regardless of what kind of world she's escaping from, consider the nature of what she's joining, and the things they do.....

Great movie but I too had to watch with subtitles. The Dad has the deepest voice known to man, plus the thick accents.

The only argument I've heard against it is "They're distracting", which I completely don't understand. You hear them alongside the audio, you're not reading something completely different from what's happening, there's nothing to "distract" you. They're just there as a supplement to make sure you don't miss anything, and it's incredibly easy to miss stuff here and there for various reasons as you said.
