So, were reducing the amount of credits needed to unlock the top heroes by 75%. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will now be available for 15,000 credits; Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa for 10,000 credits; and Iden at 5,000 credits. Based on what weve seen in the trial, this amount will make earning these heroes an achievement, but one that will be accessible for all players.

It's good they changed it, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect them to do this. See how far they can push it, then dial it back to get praise for changing it.
Still, it doesn't change the fact that it's less. And apparently with the other ways to earn credits this won't take long to unlock everything, so really it's a nonissue for me with considering how fun the beta was.

Yeah, that's pretty silly. If this was a FTP game or something, I would think they had a point and that the critics sounded entitled. But when you pay literally $80 for a single game, you should get all of the content for that game.

The heroes can only be bought with in-game currency. There is no way to get in-game currency with real money.

We'll need a lot more than reducing the cost of some heroes. It's only a start. They've lost their communities good will and faith, and that's going to take a long time to heal -- kind of like getting cheated on in a committed relationship. Even then, most of us are never going to trust EA.

Not that I imagine they had a lot of faith left in them before this little fiasco.

Remember when Kojima pulled that swerve with MGS2, and you ended up playing as Raiden for most of the game? There was a lot of hate for that game for that reason. They wanted to play as Snake, not random asshole. Also, all the heroes were unlocked in the first Battlefront.

This doesn't seem like a comparable situation at all. You don't spend most of your time in Battlefront 2 playing as the hero.

IIRC you couldn't even play as the heroes in the first game at all. They're not the focus.

Yeah but Battlefront is a troop shooter where you spend the vast majority of your time playing as "random asshole" by design.

Those are pretty different situations you're comparing to the EA shit though. With the way it was set up you'd have to forgo your own progression in the multiplayer and spend 40+ hours of game time just to unlock a single character, or pay a shit ton of money. What you brought up is part of naturally progressing through a game. Unlocking Darth Vader for 60,000 credits was not

Also that's just for one character. You'd have to do it all over again to get Luke Skywalker etc etc

Not only that, but the unlocks are beyond ridiculous for two major reasons. The 40 hour time limit it takes to get one hero and the same hero that can be bought with microtransactions. Typical pay-to-win.

And for anyone calling one player lazy because he didn't spend 40 hours collecting a hero to another player who dropped 20 bucks to get it instantly is lol.

Personally, I think it's a strong step in the right direction. The drastic cut doesn't screw over the non-micro-transaction players as hard as it did.

Everything you named couldn't have been purchased. I couldnt but lightweight pro in Call of Duty via paying money to open lootboxes. I couldn't pay money to unlock armor in lootboxes in Halo 3. I couldn't pay money to unlock characters in Double Dash. All I could do was play the game and do certain milestones.

Progression in games should never be behind lootboxes. The upgrades for weapons, heros and classes should be tied to unlocking via playing and skill only. Never behind a fucking randomized prize crate. It's only this way for making money.

The only way to buy heroes is with credits (in-game currency). You cannot get heroes in lootboxes.
You can buy lootboxes with credits or crystals (premium currency).

Lootboxes and credits can also be earned via in-game challenges, completing the campaign, doing the arcade missions, etc. The challenges seem to refresh on a weekly rotation and there will be unique ones involving DLC seasons.
No idea if crystals can be earned in-game or if they're purely a way to buy with cash.

Inside lootboxes are weapons, craft parts, and star cards.
Weapons are self-explanatory.
Craft parts can be used to make star cards or weapon mods (other way to get mods is via weapon challenges).
Star Cards have various boosts of different levels (common, uncommon, rare, epic -- epic is not found in lootboxes at all and must be crafted). Star Cards affect a variety of things (side-grades on the different abilities, improvements of the abilities, increase health, earn extra points based off of the class such as they heavy earning extra points for being hit, etc.)

Classes, ships, and heroes all have star cards. While all of the star cards have mathematical improvements over lesser versions, they aren't that significant. Luck and skill still plays the most important role in who would win between two players.
