She became a household name when she was on trial for the illicit affair when she was 24 as the 14 y/o boy, now 27 told police that he was at her house and on another occasion they had sex while his 15 y/o COUSIN DROVE them around in the car!! In November 2006 she plead guilty on 2 counts of lewd and lascivious behaviour and was sentenced to 3 years house arrest and 7 years probation and required to register as a sex offender. Her friend, Joe Zuniga wrote a book on her life and revealed that she is a changed woman after turning to Christianity as she got married and has kids of her own in the last decade but still struggles to shrug off her legal troubles But to this day people still stare at her and make mean comments towards her as she pretends to not hear them and continues on with her day..She's owned up to what she did but her community won't forgive her and has become a pariah Her attorney caused controversy back then when he said "To place Debbie into a Florida state's women's prison, to place an attractive young woman in that kind of hellhole is like putting a piece of raw meat in with the lions"..that's what lead her out of a jail cell She went on national television to explain her actions attributing it to being BIPOLAR, hyper-sexuality and poor judgement and her ex husband, Owen Lafave dumped her. But Joe Zuniga said she's a completely different person ever since she found God and has "grown up" alot when she was a 24 y/o dirty teacher and has ignored the media from calling her names. Debra encourages everyone to follow God's teachings because if you admit to your sins, God will "absolve" you of your crimes... Is Joe Zuniga her friend or husband? Why does her hat say Zuniga if they're just friends?
