I can't decide if buying a new TV now is worth it. I have a 5+ year old Samsung and it still looks fine with no issues or anything, but I'm also curious if it's time to upgrade. Cause the prices seem pretty low this week.
Is this 4k or the High Dynamic Range stuff worth it, and is there enough content to support it right now? Or is it all just BS, and better off holding out for the future? --- Sigs are for losers. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Honestly, I don't notice a huge difference in 4k while I'm watching. It's better but prices are just going to fall on 4k tvs over the next few years.
Anyway, if you're set on buying a tv there's usually better sales after Thanksgiving. I would at least wait a week. I did it last year and saved $300 on a tv...and not a shitty black Friday tv either. --- PSN: Jiek ... Copied to Clipboard!

You definitely don't need 4k. I would wait until they gain more relevance unto the market.

One important thing to know. Nearly all 4K TVs that will be really cheap on Black Friday will be pretty bad, and a lot of them look worse than a 1080p one. If you're going to get a new TV then don't buy one of those "door buster" TVs.

This is the right time of year if you do have to upgrade, but technology is one of those things where you always benefit from waiting until you really need to. Today's 1TB hard drive will be next year's 2TB hard drive at the same price. Similarly, today's 4K tv will either be half the current price next year, or a new model that's significantly better at the same price. --- "History Is Much Like An Endless Waltz. s0nicfan posted...Similarly, today's 4K tv will either be half the current price next year, I was being slightly hyperbolic, but in general my point was that given the rate of technology improvement, waiting until you actually need to upgrade will always yield something as good or better than what you'd be looking at right now for the same price point. Well here's a different question I guess. The TV I have now is a plasma TV. Will I see a big difference upgrading that to today's current technology?

Wait so plasma is considered a good thing now? I thought it was of lesser quality than LEDs. Im so lost on TV technology Plasma has always been higher quality than LED. The problem is plasma is expensive, heavy, and suffers from issues like burn-in. LED was an attempt to get LCD TVs to look closer to plasma, and they have the added benefit of being cheap, much lighter, and with fewer issues. The reason plasma was phased out was because the market pushed towards thinner TVs that could be more easily mounted and cost less. --- "History Is Much Like An Endless Waltz.
