Overall yes but some things are more expensive or about the same as local supermarkets. Usually I find some items on sale at like CVS are a better deal.

Some things it's better to buy in bulk like toilet paper, others it's not necessary.

This. If you price certain things out they're not actually any cheaper, just bigger. Still great if you have a family or own a restaurant or whatever, but as a single guy most of it's not for me. Stuff like toilet paper and that is obviously great. I love not having to worry about the stuff for months at a time.

For me where it shines is the odd thing that would be absolute murder to buy anywhere else. A big one for me is whey protein. Can get a five pound tub for $30. The stuff would cost at least double that anywhere else, even at Walmart.

dog food alone is worth the membership tbh but many of their items arent cheaper. their butcher is more expensive than my local grocery store.

Typically I'd agree but with the weak ass Canadian dollar + the cost of shipping to Canada trying to get a lot of stuff online here doesn't really save you anything unless the item in question has a ridiculous store markup. All things considered, I almost feel like Costco is selling their protein at a loss or very nearly.

it's more that myprotein's house blend costs way less in real dollars than optimum nutrition's, anywhere

On certain items, yeah. Meat especially.

I also get my gym membership there (24 hour fitness). It's an upfront cost of ~$650 for a 2 year statewide (maybe nationwide?) membership (<$30 / mo), but considering the two 24's I go to the area offered no less than $40/mo, my membership paid for itself almost immediately.

I'm a fan of MyProtein but I hate how they still charge you for shipping. Economy is $7 so in the end you're only saving 8 bucks compared to ON off Amazon.

For me Costco is always either more or the same than my supermarket for meat and fish, even the frozen things. Usually I can get chicken breast for like $2 a pound at the supermarket but Costco it's more than that and I have to buy like double the amount.

Most stuff is slightly cheaper than you'd find in the supermarkets (not by a lot, though) but their own brand stuff is really good quality. Their food especially; the steak is fantastic and the pizzas are enormous.

Only trouble is I always go in to buy one or two small things and end up buying shitloads of stuff to stockpile. I remember moving house a few years back and stopped by to pick up some mats and some cleaning stuff. I went overboard as usual and bought mouthwash, whiskey, fizzy drinks, a shredder etc and only when I got back to the car did I realise it was already full of all the stuff I was moving. I had to re-arrange the entire back of the car in the car park.

@drunkmuggle has tipped me off to sales where the net price was about half that of ON

yeah if you are not in a pinch and don't mind waiting, you can get 11 lbs at $55 in the USA shipping inclusive. you will not get anything cheaper than the deals they have for protein

if you'd like, next time I see a sale I'll make a topic and tag anyone who's interested and hopefully they won't mod me and tell me that "this isn't GainsFAQs" again

If you shop there like a regular supermarket, no.

But if you go and buy the non perishable items like plastic utensils, paper plates, cups, napkins, paper towels, laundry detergent, soap, etc. it's cheaper.

I usually go to BJ's once a month and stock up on essentials that dont go bad.
