Yeah I mean the political calculus wasn't much of a factor. I was never worried about the seat turning red. I just don't think this alone is enough to warrant a resignation.

Regardless the Democrats need to come out and condemn him and ask him to resign, if only to be consistent. The problem with the party, which I'm sure you love, is how hypocritical they appear to be. This is a chance they have the ability to both do the right thing plus help their image.

So this is what Trump actually meant by "drain the swamp": if his own behavior is considered unacceptable, you have to be a total hypocrite to give others a pass for the same exact thing. Essentially, through teaching by negative example, Trump has led us into an era where sexual harassment/assault by people in positions of authority will no longer be tolerated or swept under the rug no matter where they stand politically or professionally.

On a semi-related note, I heard SNL didn't make any jokes about Weinstein because they couldn't make it funny. But then they went and made jokes about Roy Moore's sexual misconduct. If that's true, it seems like it's just them not wanting to go after someone on their side. Which is the kind of attitude that enables this bad behaviour in the first place. Granted, I can't vouch for that claim, since I don't watch or follow SNL.

Thing is: when has first story like this ever been the last? Trump, Moore, Weinstein, Weiner, Spacey, Ailes, O'Reilly. All of those stories snowballed. There's a real chance we'll be hearing more about Franken in the next few days.

This is sincerely disappointing, but also not entirely surprising because comedy writer rooms are full of stuff like this. That said, this shit is recent. Al hasn't been a comedian for ten years. This isn't appropriate in the writers' room, how are you going to do this when you're considering a career in politics?
