For the record, some people (this guy) don't mind working holidays. You get paid extra just to watch the breakdown of human civilization. It's far more entertaining than a typical workday.

thanksgiving was always the major american Holiday that I cared the least for.
When going to school yeah great to have the day off. When it comes to work however I rather get paid the extra for working the day.
I find Turkey to be a boring food and just simply do not care for most of the other foods served on thanksgiving.
However I DO feel sorry for those who have to work christmas even if I don't really do anything for that day either. I do find sitting at home and watching the christmas movies to be fine.

This is probably the first year since I was 15 that Im not working each major holiday, so I definitely empathize with the folks working this time of year

Technically, I'm working Thanksgiving. I start at 11 pm and get out at 7:30 am Friday. The store will be closed from 12-6. All the while, I'm getting time and a half plus a $1 shift differential. I got the sweetheart deal, so don't feel too bad for me.

Shouldn't be any traffic to/from work. Facility's not open to the public (no need for presentations to screaming children and rowdy school groups), but the animals have to eat anyways. Take care of husbandry while getting paid time and a half. Go home to the family reunion dinner directly to delicious food. Not a bad day to be an animal keeper.

Is thanksgiving (a US only holiday as far as I know) really a holiday people care aboout? Like Christmas or maybe Easter?
Serious question. All I know is it involves a Turkey dinner. Which you can also have at Christmas. And what if you don't like turkey?
Where I live there are a couple of holidays in spring that are free days but mean absolutely nothing. No people I know would mind working that day instead of another day.

Yes. The answer is yes. It even gets its own themed episodes on TV series.

Its in Canada too, but ours is on Americas Columbus Day, iirc... It has no cultural significance in my house though, so we usually just eat a turkey for the sake of it then go about our normal routines...

Some people make ham instead. Some vegetarians make a tofu version of turkey or something else. It is really more about the practice of gathering with your loved ones and expressing gratitude for the things and people in your life rather than any particular dish. There are foods that are common for the holiday but it also varies from family to family.

We do that on Christmas. Is there a difference in setting or family/friends invited between Thanksgiving and Christmas? And if not, why are they so close together in the year (a month)?
Not trying to bash your fun holidays or something.. Some american holidays get copied overseas, like Valantines and Halloween, or even that Irish day, but Thanksgiving is ignored. I guess it feels like Christmas the light version.
