I think I spent like...5 or 10 dollars to unlock The Punisher when the game first opened up.

Played for like 3 hours, stopped playing.

Went back in like a year or two later, played for another hour, stopped again.

Just wasn't my thing. Sad to see some people actually spent more than that on the game.

I'm sure at the time they didn't expect the game to close down after...what, 3 years? Or has it been 4?

But still, I don't know why someone could possibly want to unlock every character and skin. Especially when I came back a few years later they were throwing out C-List Agents of Shield characters out.

Game launched back in 2013 and was in a shitty state. Gazillion CEO, David Brevik (Co-Creator of Diablo), then hires Jeff Donais to help fix the game. They begin to listen and work with their community and was able to successfully turn the ship around. For two years they would patch every single week and as a result, the game became quite good. Unfortunately later down the line, while they were player focused, they lacked the business to make the game profitable.

Gazillion's board decides to bring in a new CEO, Dave Von Dorman, and they wanted David Brevik to work together. However David Brevik and a good chunk of the team left because of what they've heard/experience about DVD. David Brevik, also left because he was tired of being CEO and wanted to go back to being a programmer. Anyway, DVD is a mega creep and has a lot of allegations with sexual misconduct. He comes in and decides to make major changes to the game that were obviously done to grab money. The company stopped listening to the very community that helped make them in the first place. He also decides to gamble their resources and port the game to console when the PC version was in a bad state. Company lacks the staff to maintain both platforms.

Now recently Disney/Marvel was made aware of DVD's allegations and they decided to cut ties and revoke the license. Mind you, Gazillion had the license before Disney bought out Marvel.

DVD is also an investor in Gazillion and has lost a lot of money due to his poor decisions as well as upper management's. Last week they announced they are shutting down in Dec 31st. But now they announced they are shutting down on Friday. They are not paying out accrued PTO and severances to their employees, and they are only giving their employees till Friday to clear out their desk. Most of the employees are out of state for the holidays.

Also turns out that DVD knew they lost their license a month ago, and continued to have microtransactions in game operable.

Jesus, that's just shitty.

He's a rich dude and a CEO, he'll come out unscathed. This isn't the first company he's ruined. Lots of people in the industry knew of his misconduct in the past, but the board never cared because he was also an investor and a board member.

This guy is a complete scumbag. They did a stream a few months back and he threatened a newly hired community manager that he'd lose his job if he wasn't satisfied. He also boasted about how proud he was of the decisions he made and that he'd defend it all. He then promised a Q&A stream with the community, but then backed out last minute. About the same time, the allegations got more awareness from the community. He's such a coward.

Marvel Heroes was in production before Disney actually acquired Marvel.

In fact, I think Disney has wanted out of the Gazillion license agreement but couldn't get out of it until now.

Like I said, Marvel Heroes wasn't that great but Disney has been completely shitting the bed when it comes to video games so this still kind of sucks. I'm hoping that the new Spider-Man game is a turning point and they start getting some decent games out.

Disney Infinity could have been so much better if they didnt have the action figure gimmick, and allowed people to unlock heroes instead of buy them. The toy box is the most amazing creator tool Ive ever seen. You could create an entire quest driven game with it.

The biggest problems was buying characters and the horrid limitations on multiplayer. You cant play with anyone unless theyre on your friends list. I get that they wanted to try to make a safe environment for kids, but they really shot themselves in the foot with a game like this, that screams multiplayer, and put the most restrictive means possible on it.

all this in just the past couple of years.

I am only talking about this specific situation. I'm not talking about all the other shit Disney has pulled. I've played this game for over 5 years and have talked to a lot of former and 'current' devs from Gazillion. This game was being mismanaged by the current CEO and the upper management which ultimately lead to its downfall. After David Brevik left, Gazillion started to disenfranchise their entire community and only made changes the company seemed fit even when players warned them against it. They made so many bad changes that it was hard to recover so they started using their resources to port to console. They lacked the resources to fix any of the problems the game had on both platforms while not having the adequate staff to maintain it.

Is that the game with the commercial where the Marvel characters were fighting and paused mid-fight with the voice over until one of the characters would tell them to shut up and let the fight?

I was meaning more like what the game actually was and what people were spending that much money on.

You're given a couple of free heroes at the start and you can unlock more by grinding a lot or paying money for it. Skins are also something you can buy and they reference movies and various runs of the comics. They might have changed it since I wasn't really playing after 2015, but there's a lot of places where you can spend money.

They didn't add much in probably the last year since they were working on the console release. Haven't read the rant because tl;dr I played the game for about 2 years before the console release and plenty of content was added for a f2p game.

Online only trophies shouldn't exist or should be patched out when it's too dead or shut down to be possible any more and what 100% completion entails should remove said trophies from the overall percentage and Platinum requirements and move them to a specially designated section for trophies that you earned that are no longer obtainable.

It still wouldn't satisfy all TH/AH's who simply want the achievement of it and it would inherently reduce the prestige of that games Platinum if everyone in their mom can getting it just by having an online only game that was shut down for example, but still they really just shouldn't exist or shouldn't be required for platinums/100%'s.
