Honestly, Shane was an awesome character, I loved to hate him. Everyone says Walking Dead declined after the first few seasons and never recovered.

What if they kept Shane alive beyond season two, and killed off someone like Karen or Glenn instead? Would the development and atmosphere of the show been better overall?

Now that I finished The Punisher, Bernthal is a very good actor, and excels at playing that psychopath character, he's a bit scary and uncomfortable, and fits the role so well. It seems like there were a few shitty characters in Walking Dead that lasted too long and I got sick of and Shane was cut out entirely too early.

Anyone else feel like Shane got taken out too fast and it overall damaged the plot and the feel of Walking Dead?

I don't think everyone says Walking Dead declined after the first couple seasons. I think it's more like the episodes are really hit or miss.

Pretty much this. I've been enjoying the current season.

As for Shane (comic spoilers) - He was killed in the comic much earlier. By the show's equivalent, Season 1 Episode 5.

His death was among the biggest for Rick which later led to Rick basically becoming Shane, something Rick tried his best not to do.

No, he died at the right time. If they'd drawn out his extremist views vs Rick's more restrained ones, it would've just turned out terribly and stifled Rick's character growth.

I thought the best seasons of the show were the first three, I still think The Governor was the best villain and i'm not into the Negan stuff much at all, I fell off watching the show around season 5 or so and catch up when i'm bored, but i'm not motivated to stick with it like I had in previous years.

Either way, my point is more focused on Shane leaving the show too early and if they should have kept him around longer, regardless of what the comics did.

Yeah I know what you mean, but I agree this was the most pivotal time for it to happen on the show. Shane was out of control, ready to snap at any time, and Rick needed to take command of the group before Shane could cause any major damage. Unfortunately they lost the farm in the process.

Carol not Karen, idk where that came from. I never liked Carol and still don't, but she's stuck around for the long haul.

I liked the Governor as a villain, yeah. The problem was they dragged his arc out way too long.

I thought it was so damned stupid how they had him and his folks attack the prison, get scared off right away, then he kills his own people and burns Woodbury down...just to meet up with another random camp of dudes during to attack the prison the next season.

As for Negan, man, I love Negan as a villain. He owns every scene he's in. Maybe Jeffrey Dean Morgan is just really nailing the performance, but the episodes with Negan are generally much more entertaining than the ones without.

I like Carol well enough, but I kinda feel like she's stuck around too long. And they're kinda overplaying the whole Murder Machine thing she has going on.
