my mother also knows a lot about southern, tex-mex and mexican food, so i've learned a lot from her about that too. hardshell tacos, softshell "street" tacos, rolled tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, burritos, etc. for mexican food. my favorite southern dish we make is country gravy, which we usually make biscuits to go with, but it's also good for chicken-fried steak. i actually took the pretty basic recipe my mom always used and spiced it up a bit, adding some crushed red pepper flakes and going from just sausage to sausage, bacon, AND hamsteak. i like to call it "Whole Hog" gravy.

I'm willing to eat you in hopes you taste like this sounds.

Let it sit for like 20 minutes gets better as it cools, will be way better the next day though.

Thanks for the tip! Will do.

I'm really liking the crockpot so far. I think it's gonna be a big help for me to make much more satisfying, balanced dinners.

I am by no means a good cook, let alone a chef, but I can do a few decent meals. I spent my mid-late teens on the other side of the country from my parents, and my housemates instilled in me the importance of cooking a variety of simple but respectable meals. I can whip up a reasonable batch of chicken & egg fried rice, a decent spicy spag bol, a reasonable beef curry, an exotic spicy lean chicken and veg, and of course the staple medium rare fillet steak and full English.

Nothing in that list is particularly difficult to cook (the curry is the hardest and I just use a mix of pre-prepared sauces and some chilli powder). You expect to eat three times a day for the rest of your life, it's always worth having some basic skills to make mealtimes more interesting.

I'm a pretty good cook. I make a variety of dishes. From basic dinners to really fancy stuff. I can make really good filet mignon, risottos (different types), lobster, shrimp, seafood pasta, scallops, fried chicken, chicken wings, beef stew, etc. I've made my own bread sticks, biscuits and cornbread from scratch. I make various sides, like mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, brussels sprouts with bacon, etc.

I also bake a lot of desserts. 3 tier cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies, etc. On Thanksgiving I made perfect chocolate souffles (no one in my family likes pumpkin pie). I always bake a cake for my husband on his birthday. Once I made him a pina colada cake, it was amazing. It had a pineapple filling and coconut frosting.

Everything I make is also from scratch. Other than maybe pasta sauces. I avoid anything from a box or a can.

Turned out really good! Letting it rest definitely helped the flavors come together and thicken up a bit nicely. Thanks again!

my mom is italian and i learned a lot of what i know about cooking from her, so i can make a lot of italian food, especially if it involves marinara sauce, which our family has a multi-generational recipe for. meatballs and pasta, lasagna, manicotti, raviolis, pizza, etc. i also like making chicken alfredo dishes. i was the first one in my family to take our traditional recipe for ground beef and marinara lasagna (which we make every Christmas) and adapt it into a chicken alfredo lasagna. it turned out really good. i also like making italian desserts, mostly italian style cheesecake, but also cannolis, tiramisu and gelato.

my mother also knows a lot about southern, tex-mex and mexican food, so i've learned a lot from her about that too. hardshell tacos, softshell "street" tacos, rolled tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, burritos, etc. for mexican food. my favorite southern dish we make is country gravy, which we usually make biscuits to go with, but it's also good for chicken-fried steak. i actually took the pretty basic recipe my mom always used and spiced it up a bit, adding some crushed red pepper flakes and going from just sausage to sausage, bacon, AND hamsteak. i like to call it "Whole Hog" gravy.

i taught myself how to cook a few chinese dishes as well, which is something my mom never really got into, and ended up learning a bit from me for a change lol. i really like making chow mein and fried wontons, those homemade come out way better than most takeout places. i have also made orange chicken, sweet and sour pork, and beef with broccoli.

i also like grilling a nice steak, as well as barbecuing and grilling in general. on the stovetop, i have a cast-iron grill pan i do almost all my steaks on. i like to serve it with a side salad, garlic and herb bread, and either twice-baked pototoes or irish potato coins tossed with olive oil and rosemary. my favorite thing to BBQ is ribs with a nice dry rub i adapted from a few different recipes online. it is spicy and sweet and salty and smoky all at once. it also goes great on pork top loin or loin chops. i also like grilling fruit. i do all different kinds of fruit, usually 5 or 6 different kinds lined up on skewers, and marinated in a honey-orange-clove glaze.

and i really like cooking breakfast as well. anything from a scrambled or fried egg platter with bacon and hashrbowns and toast, to blueberry and cream cheese stuffed french toast, chocolate chip banana pancakes or the aforementioned biscuits and gravy.

That's so awesome!
