When we use the term "fake news" it is not only self-defeating, it oversimplifies a very complex problem.
A year ago, this wasn't the case. The term actually meant something. It described a particular type of website that used the same design templates as professional news websites but its contents were entirely fabricated.

But earlier this year, the term started to become meaningless. It became used to describe any piece of information that someone else didn't like. Increasingly the term has become weaponized by politicians who use it to undermine independent journalism in an effort to reach the public directly through their own channels.

What's wrong about this quote?

Fox news literally pushed the Seth Rich conspiracy theory to the point that his family had to ask them to stop and are now getting sued over it

Is that one example supposed to outnumber the amount of false news stories from CNN I've listed only in this topic?

Posting nonsense on Facebook (which according to polls didn't affect voting at all) is not interference.

CNN to this day pushes the idea that Russia hacked the election, and was directly working with Trump to do it. Something that hasn't been proven by anyone, by the way.

No, CNN is the first that took it from a factual statement to "anything I don't like is fake news". During the debut of the term "fake news", CNN and other leftists tried to push the term fake news on legitimate conservative websites. They even had a "fake news" list and ended up having to remove several conservative news sites from their list that actually weren't fake news. They were the ones who propagated the term and turned it into something it wasn't.

Then, the term got flipped onto them and actually stuck. Now they're fake news, and will be for a very long time. It'll take awhile for them to shake that term and I have no sympathy for them.

However, for children 5 years old and up, government data show that guns are three times more deadly than bathtubs. Carlson was not just wrong, but with his phrase, "far more children died," he was emphatically wrong.

We rate the claim Pants on Fire.

From Politifact's own numbers:

Accidental shooting deaths for kids up to 14: 74

Bathtub deaths for children up to 14: 86

No, if you add up the deaths from kids 0-14, more died from drowning in a bathtub than by accidental gunfire.

They're literally calling Tucker a liar because 1) he considers kids who are under 4 to be, ya know, kids,

and 2) that it didn't include 15-17 year-olds who are not necessarily colloquially called "kids" in the same way you would call a toddler a kid

Do you not see how only if you make really odd assumptions about how you interpret the data that you could actually argue Carlson lied? And is this not missing the greater point he was making; that there are way more dangerous things out therefore kids than accidental gunfire?
