Reddit does have a fairly unique problem of getting together so many like minded people that it creates weird little echo chambers no matter how innocent or well-intended the topic, though. I find with pretty much any subreddit you get a kind of weird mediocre elitism simply because of the mechanics of the upvote/downvote system, e.g. on /r/malefashionadvice it's like you have to dress like a young white suburban father otherwise nobody approves of your clothing, or on /r/cooking you have to slowcook everything otherwise what's even the point.
