Not an Oscar contender but mother! Dunkirk and Get Out were quite good (too early still in the Oscar season for me to have watched a lot more)

And for what it's worth, I honest to god think Logan might be the first superhero movie to be a legitimate Oscar contender.

Jackman, Keen and Stewart I could all see potentially getting nominations, and maybe even a Best Picture nod

it's more of a neo-western than a superhero movie, which the Academy eats up, plus it's hard to imagine they'd turn down such an easy chance to score points with modern viewers

Also wondering if you saw 'It' - I'm guessing yes, but that it didn't make your top 10. I still need to see It Comes At Night, though I've heard from some that it "technically isn't a horror movie".

Three Billboards comes to my local art theater this weekend, and I'll definitely be seeing it. I've seen 6 other movies this year:
11. A Ghost Story (7.9)
12. IT: Part One (7.8)
13. Spider-Man: Homecoming (7.8)
14. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (7.7)
15. Logan (7.5)
16. Wonder Woman (7.2)

There are also a handful of films that are from 2016 that didn't really get released here until 2017. Notably, Your Name (8.4), Endless Poetry (8.3), and Kedi (7.6).

As far as It Comes at Night is concerned, it's a horror movie in the classical sense but not really by the modern definition. It sets out more to discomfort with a heavy atmosphere than to scare.

If you are into foreign movies 120BPM was really good too and one my favourites from this year (hoping it wins the Oscar for Foreign Language but doubt so at this rate...).

Managed to get tickets for Call Me By Your Name for Wednesday next week too

I still don't get the hype behind Logan. James Mangold is such a bland director. He's as generic as they come. The strong performances and interesting concept are really dragged down by his rudimentary direction.

My number one film is a toss up between Blade Runner 2049, Baby Driver, and Dunkirk. I think all three of those are really staggeringly ambitious films that actually pull it off.

I'll also recommend The Death of Stalin, which would probably be right after those. It doesn't come to the US until early next year but look out for it, it's fantastic. It's the funniest comedy I've seen in years while also being extremely dark and depressing.

Unfortunately most of the oscar season films don't come out here until next year, other than Call Me By Your Name. So I haven't seen any of those yet, but I think it's fair to say that's a weak field this year.
