Oh my god are you pulling a Trump and saying Corrik didn't literally just say what he said

Corrik isn't even reading what we're arguing, he posted a gut response to my post

Corrik, let me sum this current argument up for you.

-Lopen has said that he agrees that calling a Native American woman "Pocahontas" based solely on her race is racist.
-You replied to... Lasa? with an example of how you might consider "Pocahontas" to be racist. (The American History X example)
-I said that based on your example, you would not agree with Lopen
-Lopen said you do agree with him
-Lopen asked you if you agree
-You said you do not agree
-I made the "See, he's not always clear" post because Lopen had just had a situation where he read your post wrong and assumed something you didn't believe.

That's literally all we're on right now. Forget the other topic at this point, I wasn't saying anything about that at the time.

That said, let's say he says he doesn't think he said that

But you can clearly see where one would read it that way

Which is the problem in itself. Even if there's a disconnect between what he thinks and what he types, we can only go by what he types, so it's unfair to call us idiots

I actually just want clarification because there is a contradiction there as you pointed out. So I'm curious what his take is on that. Which part is being misunderstood. Like most things I can see "okay that's where the miisunderstanding was" and this one I can't even make a guess so I'm asking him to clarify why there's an apparent contradiction there.

Also I've never called anyone an idiot for misunderstanding what anyone has said. I've called them dishonest and perhaps treating these topics like more of a battle than than they should.

Yeah, fair enough.

Corrik, serious question. Ignore the other topic, ignore me misreading things, etc. and just give your thoughts on this:

Is it racist to call somebody a name based ONLY on their race, whether positive or negative?

Like, is it racist to call a Native American woman "Pocahontas?" Whether you're saying "Good job, Pocahontas," or "Yeah right, Pocahontas," is it racist if you chose the name "Pocahontas" because it's a Native American?

Likewise, what about calling an Asian man "Jackie Chan?"

Is there a difference? Is it okay sometimes and not other times?

What about in those specific contexts?

"Good job, Pocahontas/Jackie Chan"

Or a sarcastic "Yeah, right, Pocahontas,"

Or just flat out calling every single woman of that race Pocahontas, regardless of context?

Eh, the last one is pretty specific

Like, if every single Native American woman you meet, if you greet them with "What's up, Pocahontas?"
Or if to every Native American man, it was "What's up, Squanto?"
Or "What's up, Jackie Chan" to Asians?

Could that be racially offensive?

Eh, maybe if it was "What's up, Princess?"

Specifically picking "Pocahontas" and only doing it to Native American women definitely takes it in a different direction.

Like, you wouldn't consider "What's up, Jackie Chan?" a pickup line. >_>

Yeah, that may play a little bit into it, though if you strip it of any playful/obvious flirty context, it's more like the same.

"What's up, Jackie Chan" or "What's up, Squanto" are better examples
