From what I understand, 'experts' have at least pegged him as a narcissist.

I'm actually not sure that is true. I'm fairly certain there is a lot of well documented sociopaths in positions of authority throughout history.

And how did their sociopathy come to be well documented?

Because it was obivous?

The original post was that a personality disorder has to greatly disrupt someone's life, and therefore Trump couldn't be elected and have a disorder. I was pointing out that people have succeeded in their careers/ambitions and still been utterly broken people.

I mean, sociopathy and narcissism are things you see among some successful people. I was unaware all mental illness manifested as Forrest Gump behavior. Idiots can be born into money and being a heartless piece of shit can allow you to do things others wouldn't dare do. We live in a world where the Kardashians are rich and famous and celebrities are being outed as perverted assholes every other day. And you're here wondering how someone could possibly succeed if he isn't highly intelligent and mentally sound. At the very least, Trump is deteriorating with age.

This topic fails at being progressive.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mentalism_(discrimination)

Mentalism or sanism is a form of discrimination and oppression against a mental trait or condition a person has, or is judged to have. This discrimination may or may not be described in terms of mental disorder or cognitive impairment. The discrimination is based on numerous factors such as: stereotypes about neurodivergence (e.g. autism, learning disorders, ADHD, bipolar, schizophrenia, personality disorder diagnoses), specific behavioral phenomena (e.g. stuttering, tics), or intellectual disability.

Like other "isms" such as sexism and racism, mentalism involves multiple intersecting forms of oppression, complex social inequalities and imbalances of power. It can result in covert discrimination by multiple, small insults and indignities. It is characterized by judgments of another person's perceived mental health status. These judgments are followed by actions such as blatant, overt discrimination which may include refusal of service, or the denial of human rights. Mentalism impacts how individuals are treated by the general public, by mental health professionals, and by institutions, including the legal system. The negative attitudes involved may also be internalized.

Its true as far as the DSM definition is concerned. I was diagnosed with one a few years back and no longer am. Of course personality disorders in particular are an infant stage field of study and diagnosis. They redid the DSM just last year mostly so the diagnoses of them weren't so bad.

Anyway to your point toteall I'd argue that like many individuals, the American people hadn't gotten to know Trump and ate now stuck in an unhealthy relationship with him, not necessarily negating the personality disorder itself.

Not when you consider that he was born into immense wealth, has pissed away plenty of money due to various failures and lawsuits, and found himself under nonstop scrutiny due to all his snafus and scandals. He's playing on super easy mode and has still created countless problems for himself. That's far from impressive.

Ah, yes. I love it when cultists use that talking point. It shows their lack of connection to reality when they claim that someone who repeatedly went bankrupt because of his inability to sell football, steak, and gambling to Americans is somehow a great businessman. Good on him for clearing the low bar needed to be a reality TV star. Can anyone say President Kardashian? How about Honey Boo Boo in a few decades?

Trump's an old school carnie, like his buddy Vince McMahon. His rise to the Presidency definitely embodies a saying attributed to the most famous carnie of all, P.T. Barnum.

Beyond that, Trump's story could easily be told as a tragedy. He was born into wealth, and lived a rather middling and useless existence, all things considered. Towards the end of that existence, his ego landed him in the first real job he's ever had in his life. He now has to deal with people who will tell him "no", another thing he's never had to deal with. The man is over 70 and in poor physical shape, not to mention well past the age where his family history of dementia starts kicking in. It's clear at this point that the engine is running but there's nobody behind the wheel. His mental state is increasingly deteriorating, and the stress from this job is likely going to kill him.

He'd be a rather sympathetic figure if he hadn't spent his entire life being a colossal dick to literally everyone he came across.

Here here, somebody else you can worship for becoming a reality star:

A lead moderator shouldn't be getting involved in heavy political discussion since there is a clear conflict of interest and/or possible skewed moderations that could occur in the topic. Unprofessional. Then he calls all Trump supporters "cultists" as if - that won't trigger conservatives. You've got a lead moderator trolling people out here. What kind of message does this send to the rest of the users?
