You could put in a litecoin and you'll own about 12 percent or so because the price for that is still low right now and so far that has a lot of potential to really go up.

I'm making a prediction: the FUD that institutional investors will sell a buttload of Bitcoin and short the futures market opening tomorrow will not happen. A 500K btc is a foregone conclusion, every moron that shorts btc will get burned, all that will happen is that more people will see more money moving into bitcoin. This will lead to beginning of the mass hysteria into cryptos.

This 13K coin is going to be a fucking bargain soon enough. A year from now people will be kicking themselves in the ass wondering why they didn't buy in when it was so cheap.

I want to believe you so much

And i will

I just gave in less then a week ago and threw $80 at this through the coinbase app. It's already at $115 and at a point was $130. There is a sell option on the app. Have not tried using it yet though. I don't know jack about this but looking at the history on the app I can't see it suddenly declining to near nothing anytime soon

The sell just turns your crypto into USD in the Coinbase exchange, which you can then withdraw into your bank account.

Got a few questions for you experts if you'll allow me to ask:

I'm brand new to all this shit but looking to make some money, am I too late to this party or is now as good a time as ever?

Also, I'm having a little trouble understanding the idea behind wallets. Like which one is the right one for me? I'm not looking to use any coin for transactions, more just need trying to decide which one is best if I'm just looking to secure coins as an investment. And how easy is it to actually understand wallets? Cause I've did some reading but I still don't quite understand it.

Thanks for any help.

I wouldnt know. I just think of this as gambling tbh

.NoMeLx22x posted...
And how easy is it to actually understand wallets?

Fairly easy.

Lets say you buy 1BTC. How do we know you own it? Well you need to store it in a "wallet" which is pretty much and id. Like your bank account routing number.

Whenever you buy, the coins are then sent to your id. The id has both a public and secret part. Only you have the secret part (lets call it a password) so only you can spend the money.

If you buy stuff via coinbase or other webste, the website creates a wallet for your account. However this means that website has both the id and password so you don't really "own" them. They could just withdraw your funds if they wanted to scam you.

There are other types of wallet, for example the external devices. These usb-like pieces will create an account for you. Give you the id and password so that only you have it. You write these down on a paper and store them safely. The device will also have the information but is further protected by another password that you create. So the only way someone can steal your wallet is by finidng the piece of paper you wrote which makes it more secure.

Then on the network everyone knows that "id=NoMel" account has 1 btc hence you own it now. This is possibe as the ledger is public meaning everyone can see all transaction history since the beginning of the coin.

Note: I used different terms to hopefully give a better idea of how it works

Ok I get that part. One more question, is there a way to transfer the coins from coinbase wallet to the external wallet? And is coinbase a pretty safe website for a wallet overall or is it pretty mandatory to get some other type of wallet for this? Just wondering.

I just did my first couple buys right now and I'm pretty excited. Hope it pans out.

How long does it usually take coin to go from coinbase to binance or any other site? I just tried to transfer a little to buy some alt coins but it's been like 5 minutes. Is that normal or is it usually way longer/shorter?

Yes, you can. Same process as sending it to binance but with your wallet address.

It is the most reliable site in the US. I'd suggest if you have a small amount invested then leaving it there should be fine. Big amounts or if you want to forget about coins and check back in a year or more then personal would the best option. I do believe hard wallets cost ~70 USD so they are expensive. Its up to you.

A couple of minutes. When you transfer coinbase tells you the minimum amount of confirmations needed, once that threshold is met you'll see the balance on the other side. Should be like 10-15min tops (but it actually depends on how many miners are out there so theoretically it could take very long).

Imo that's up to you to define. A small amount = something that if stolen it wouldn't be a major problem for you. I guess one analogy could be whatever you like to carry around in your wallet/house versus whatever you store in a real bank.

If you leave it in coinbase itself, its like having it with you all time. It can get stolen but you can easily trade it. If you store in a real bank (your hard wallet), its way safer but if you want to use it you need to first make a withdrawal from it.

Get your money off the exchanges and into a wallet you control, make sure you keep multiple copies of the private key safe, if your crypto balance is more than $1,000 you should invest in a hardware wallet.

Most importantly never panic sell.

Hmmmm, am I correct in understanding that if I had a wallet that wasn't on coinbase, everytime I would buy more of another coin off of it I should then send it directly to that wallet right? Wouldn't that come with a fuck load of transaction fees and stuff? Like how do you go about moving Bitcoin and other stuff around without losing a fuck load because of all these fees? Bitcoin is experiencing higher fees because it is immensely popular and currently doesn't have the tech to handle the volume. Eth is being flood with more volume as well, partially attributable to crypto kitties.

The short of it for those two is to take the fee and transaction time on the chin. A few months ago I transferred thousands of dollars worth for just $5. Litecoin is faster and significantly cheaper because it experiences less volume and has better tech, most altcoins don't have the transaction problems BTC and ETH are currently undergoing.

The best thing you can do is be patient and triple check that your transaction network fees are reasonable. I've read horror stories including someone that transferred $200 worth of BTC with an associated network fee of +$900.

To mitigate cost you should do as few transactions as possible.
