Bernie Sanders turned out to be just as much of a sellout as the rest of them. That, on top of "We're just going to make everything free!" not passing the sniff test with the intelligent voter, he's got no chance.

Credit where credit's due though, he's easily the best liar politics has ever seen because he lies by omission, instead of just throwing a lie out there and letting the media cover.

Literally the reasoning responsible for 75% of Clinton's and Trump's votes. I support Sanders but I really want see more candidates that people want in the White house because they believe in the candidates' visions for the country.

But running one government department isn't enough experience imo

It's hard to say who the Democratic nominee will be... Bernie, Harris, Warren... even Franken still has a shot, imo.

On the Republican side, I expect Romney to challenge Pence or whoever is left in office. No one has set himself up better than Romney so far.

The Libertarian front-runner (even though it's early) is Austin Petersen. If he wins his Senate race, then I'd book him for sure.

I imagine I'll vote for Petersen if it pans out this way.

This. O'Malley benefited in the last race by just not being one of the two front runners. It's the same reason people still say "I guess Kasich is a swell guy" and think he's some super moderate Republican.

You make a good point, but I'm betting that the Libertarian party will welcome him back. Petersen's policy positions haven't changed-- only the letter next to his name. I don't think that his voter base from 2016 will turn on him so quickly. Also, Johnson and Weld were Republican governors. Admittedly, there was a significant amount of resistance to Weld, but he was still voted in as the vice presidential nominee (not simply selected by Johnson).

If Bernie was to run I do think it's extremely likely he would win the ticket this time around. Far more name recognition than he had at the start of the primary season and despite what people believe I think the DNC would hop on board once the field, which is going to be huge mind you, inevitably narrows to him. His pure popularity alone and likability in terms of public perception compared to Trump would force people onto his side.

That said I'm not totally convinced he'd run at all. However if that's the case then I DO expect him to endorse someone relatively younger with no baggage who will likely reap all the benefits from Bernie. I've said it before but I think Jeff Merkley, if he can somehow gain popularity, stands a real chance of making some noise.

No reason to appoint Ellison. Then you have to appoint someone to Ellison's seat.

I'd obviously prefer him over some people, but I'm not a fan of five-way shuffles to fill seats or the idea of being a Senator as a "promotion" from representative.

The problem is, I don't think it'll be the same Bernie that was running before. It feels like he has been captured by the establishment. They've used anti-Trump rhetoric to drag him into their fold and 'unify' him with them.
