Because Republicans ensured that we remain an oligarchy with their citizens united shenanigans. And because their sole motivation for voting for anyone is to elect someone that will piss off liberals. Even if they will ultimately suffer greater consequences than those liberals.

I mean I get why they're frustrated. They've been on a horrible losing streak since Clinton was elected. He was amazing, they tried to ruin him with an impeachment which actually made him far more popular and highlighted how successful his presidency was. Then they got their turn and completely shit the bed with George W who is considered to be one of the worst presidents of all time. And after getting completely shit on for 8 years, Obama comes in and turns out even better than Clinton, and his blackness obviously contributed towards conservatives hatred towards him. Despite the loaded Republican Congress, Obama still managed to pass a ton of socially progressive legislation that conservatives hated. And they were all hyped on being able to take all the shit they got for Bush and throw it right back at the liberals, but then Obama fucked up their plans by being amazing and probably the highest quality person that's ever been in the white house if you were judging him as just a man and not a president (tho he was a great president as well) and all of this frustration is exacerbated by the increasingly divisive conservative media they absorb every waking minute. And despite their best efforts to obstruct every single thing he ever tried to do, he went ahead and accomplished tons of stuff by just steam rolling right over them.

So now they're basically just desperate for a win of any kind, any thing where they can say "ha! We got you liberals! Now you have to feel the pain we've suffered for the past decade!" Even if it is detrimental to the country as a whole. That's how you get Trump and how an entire state could believe that holding an opposing political opinion to be worse than molesting children. And how actual policies and ability to govern are completely irrelevant in the majority of conservatives eyes. They're in desperation mode because they've been getting shot on since the early 90s, all while being called racists and homophobes and unintelligent white trash. It's been hell for then for a long time, and now they've lashed out in the most destructive way possible just to have the satisfaction of seeing liberals upset.

Because gains are made as a percentage. If you make 10% gain on $100, you make $10. If you make 10% on $1 mill, you get $100,000.

Also add to that, that poor people end up paying more for stuff because they take have to take out loans and pay more interest.

I would disagree with most new millionaires being self-made to a point. You still need insider connections to get to that level of wealth. The overwhelming majority of business owners are not millionaires.

Making money requires money in the first place. You can get a loan yes, but remember that loans aren't given out willy nilly, you need to be able to convince the person giving it to give it, and if you don't do as well as you thought you would, you now own debt.

This. It's easy to say "let's have these rules" or "no rules" or whatever when you've already got an old money stranglehold on the economy. If everyone had to start from scratch a lot of people wouldn't like many of the beliefs they currently support.

First step would be to get people stop thinking that the rich are rich because they worked hard to be there. Once we get over that barrier, it'll be easier for the poor to stop blaming themselves and seeing themselves as temporary displaced millionaires.

I got this far into this inane rant.

http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2015/jan/25/cokie-roberts/have-democrats-lost-900-seats-state-legislatures-o/

Have Democrats lost 900 seats in state legislatures since Obama has been president?

The public widely refuted the left's agenda and the Republican party went on a huge winning streak during the Obama administration and now control Congress and the White House.

So... no.

what does "self-made" mean to you?

Gates was born in Seattle, Washington on October 28, 1955. He is the son of William H. Gates Sr.[b] (b. 1925) and Mary Maxwell Gates (19291994). His ancestry includes English, German, Irish, and Scots-Irish.[17][18] His father was a prominent lawyer, and his mother served on the board of directors for First Interstate BancSystem and the United Way. Gates's maternal grandfather was JW Maxwell, a national bank president.

At 13, he enrolled in the Lakeside School, a private preparatory school.[25] When he was in the eighth grade, the Mothers' Club at the school used proceeds from Lakeside School's rummage sale to buy a Teletype Model 33 ASR terminal and a block of computer time on a General Electric (GE) computer for the school's students.[26]

Zuckerberg was born in 1984 in White Plains, New York.[16] He is the son of Karen (ne Kempner), a psychiatrist, and Edward Zuckerberg, a dentist.[17]

He transferred to the exclusive private school Phillips Exeter Academy, in New Hampshire, in his junior year,

His father taught him Atari BASIC Programming in the 1990s, and later hired software developer David Newman to tutor him privately.

Literally rich parents, high profile prepatory schools, private tutoring, special access to resources like in Gate's example

Can you give me a better example of your so called "self-made" man?

I still think that November 8th, 2016 was a historic victory for the United States. Not because of the victory of Donald Trump, but because of the defeat of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Hillary Rodham Clinton would have been able to inject her cronies across the various departments of the federal government. The damage would be a lot more long term than Trump's damage. Hillary is just so much more politically savvy than Trump. I think most of Trump's damage will be more easily undone after he's gone compared to the damage that Hillary could have inflicted, which would be more long lasting and harder to root out.

Oh they certainly exist, I just think they are less effective than Hillary's would be, and also that they will be quickly rooted out after Trump is out of office (particularly if a Democrat replaces him).

Hillary is just so much more experienced when it comes to political subterfuge that I think she would be able to have a much more long lasting impact when it comes to increasing corruption in this country.
