Because Coinbase isn't buying your coin. People are constantly buying and selling coin. Every time someone sells, it creates a sell order to sell X amount of coin at a rate of $X per coin. When you hit buy, it creates a buy order that helps fill all or part of a sell order. It's a peer to peer thing.

I could just never get myself to invest in ethereum. Im still mad I didn't buy any when it was $30 and someone on CE told us to.

I'll stick with Bitcoin, Litecoin, and other altcoins.
