Whose side are you on?

34 y/o Mei Rui, originally from China, was kicked off a Spirit Airlines Flight in Texas while on a flight with her elderly parents and 2 year old son because she was BREASTFEEDING and was told by crew to "stop" and put him in a seat so they could take off.

She and her son, Lukas and her parents were flying from Texas to NYC when they were sitting on a tarmc for almost 3 hours because of de-icing delay so she breast fed her son who was "exhausted".

Shortly after, flight attendants tod her to stop and put him a seat as they were ready for take off but she said the door was still open

She finally put him in a seat and forced him in there but then he started crying for 25 minutes and she asked if she could get a few more minutes to feed him still but they refused and instead BOOTED them off the plane!!

Children are allowed to fly on their parents laps until they are 2 but must have their own seat

Videos were taken showing staff AND police LAUGHING in her face and refusing to tell her why they booted them off when she did nothing wrong and they kept saying "not comply with instructions"

The airline called police to escort them off as fellow passengers who witnessed it called it disgusting on how they were treated.

She's a Yale medical school grad and cancer researcher who is also an accomplished piano player and teacher who said this ordeal was worse than Hurricane Harvey that destroyed her HOUSE as well as her parents house!!.

They were on their way to participate in an assignment on behalf of the MD Anderson Cancer Centre and her father was so distraught that he collapsed and went to a hospital

Spirit refunded the money for their tickets as Mei said she will never fly with this airline again.

Whose side are you on?

Mei and her family -

They're "about to take off" (despite a door being open) and yet after saying that, her baby cried for 25 minutes and then they still hadn't taken off b/c unless they ejected her off the plane mid-air, it's kinda hard to remove someone from a plane that's taken off.
Wow.

I hate having to listen to crying babies, but the airline and police were completely in the wrong. But as was already said, "Spirit Airlines" is all you needed to know.

Why feed in public? I've seen the pumps, you can extract milk and store it in a bottle.
Really it's just asking for trouble. Should you be allowed to breast feed in public? Sure, but you should plan so you don't have to.

Because you can't bring more than 3 liquid ounces through airport security and she didn't want to lug around the breast lump (or she checked it). That 3 hour tarmac delay didn't help either.

Either way, the airport seriously miss handled this.

And then you have to carry around a bottle, which also doesn't keep forever if you don't refrigerate it. Plus Sunny's point about the airline liquid restrictions and the tarmac delay. Why not avoid those hassles? To placate a couple of prudes that don't like being reminded that boobs exist?

Technically you can bring those on because it's "food". You just have to explain it and then they put it in a plastic bag.
Weirdly water bottles don't work this way. You can't bring them on ever apparently.
But airport security is a joke. It's just a theatre.

Babies really shouldn't fly. I can only imagine how horrible it is for them. Their ears splitting their head open through the entire decent, unable to clear them.
I flew sick once. I was ready to cry too. The pain was unimaginable. I couldn't walk. I could barely see. My ears never popped from 40k to 0. The drive home the pain slowly went away, but never popped. I lost some hearing that day.

Being exposed in public is asking to be looked/stared at... and its usually illegal for that matter.

There couldve...scratch that there definitely was other children on the plane that dont need to see some bare tits out. At least go to the bathroom and feed.

It isn't. In fact, it's recommended.

"The American Academy of Family Physicians notes that children weaned before two years of age are at increased risk of illness (AAFP 2008)."

"Breastfeeding toddlers between the ages of one and three have been found to have fewer illnesses, illnesses of shorter duration, and lower mortality rates (Mlbak 1994, van den Bogaard 1991, Gulick 1986)."

Doubtful. I often get the impression that some mothers just want their kids to always stay kids. Even more so when you read about 6 years olds breastfeeding. I'd say two year old is borderline too old to be sucking your mams tits.

I'm a new father and my wife is breastfeeding. She usually tries to wear a little cover/blanket thing over while she's doing it, but sometimes it's too hard and gets in the way. Seriously, if a grown person can't handle breastfeeding or seeing a breast then they have maturity issues.
If a kid looks and laughs, well, that's just a kid being a kid. Maybe a good opportunity for a teachable moment? I dunno. But breasts in general I feel are way overly sexualized. That's not to say men shouldn't be attracted to them, because there are evolutionary reasons why men are. But there's a time and a place to put on your mature face and look the other way.

Really it's just asking for trouble. Should you be allowed to breast feed in public? Sure, but you should plan so you don't have to.

1: breast pumps aren't free. 2: can't carry the milk through security, would have to pump after security but before boarding. 3: pumping takes a long time and is uncomfortable if not painful, and less effective than directly breastfeeding. 4: that pumped milk spoils. 5: that pump and bag is also huge and bye bye carryon if you're taking a pump with you

What trouble is it asking for, exactly? There shouldn't be trouble with mothers breastfeeding.

Not at all. If he was fed enough he'd be tired and ready to calm down. The child was agitated from being in a strange loud place while very hungry.

You know how people have to wake up to feed their crying babies? They go back to sleep with food. Breast milk has a sedating effect.

I feel that way about breast sexualization and wear neither of those things. Even if I or others did so what? Push up bras are for self confidence and most women's clothing is made with a low neckline. Still not sexualizing breasts. Deal with it.
