Realized this is far more intelligently written than anything aimed at adults these days. Charlie Brown is a more complex, deeper, more troubled character than anybody in any of the capeshit flicks. This has more high-brow references than any three episodes of Frasier and more subtle "you'd have to be an adult to get it" humor than a top-tier episode of Mad Men. What happened to us?

Thnx for reminding me of Peanuts. I think the rise of the internet has caused the decline of innocent tv shows, which can be most profound and emotional by far. Trying to be mature is most immature when it comes to entertainment.

Well, Charlie Brown is essentially about a depressed loser and the closest things he has to friends don't respect him.

Although it's true that most "children" cartoons in the U.S. have a degraded and become much more infantile.

You look at the Batman Animated series and that was considered acceptable for children to watch in the 90's, now we have shows like Teen Titans GO instead.
