People universally said TFA played it too safe but also seemed to really enjoy it. Seems like a lot of people actively disliked this one from what I've been hearing from a lot of peeps.

Feels way too much like a Marvel movie, too many flat characters, a lot of buildup ruined, dumb and out of character choices, too many weak plots going on at once instead of a few strong ones.

I don't think any of that spoils anything.

it's got the lowest user reviews of any star wars movie. Fans hate it more than the Prequels lol.

There's a 30 minute subplot that is completely irrelevant to the main story. The new characters they introduce are just boring plot devices. Story is incredibly slow and boring for like the first hour and 45 minutes before picking up a little bit but still not really resulting in much of a climax.

It's not like a Marvel movie. Less humor, and most of the humor falls flat. Less action as well.

Because people are whiny babies who misremember the prequels because they saw them as kids and oversell how good the original trilogy was. They forget the series has always been a campy, cheesy, flawed sci-fi fantasy marketing machine. The original movies are fun and mostly good, but RotJ is still pretty meh. The prequels are 90% irredeemable trash. Star Wars has never been the pinnacle of cinema.

As in, stupid humor sprinkled throughout, multiple flat characters, a stupid cliche phrase (SPURK THAT LITES REBLEON) that somehow inspires everybody to win yay, etc.

The problem is that this movie is not campy or cheesy. It's outright trying to be funny, and can't even execute a basic plotline correctly. One of the main plots is literally 'run in a straight line'. The prequels had lots of issues, but they each have at least some point that is good or great. I can only think of one scene from TLJ that I might consider good, but it's ruined because the character making the choice is bafflingly stupid.

Hyperspace ramming. The music cutting out made it pretty good, but I can't believe how awful of a character the Vice Admiral is. I can't even remember her name because of how flat the character is.

It's not like a Marvel movie. Like I said in another topic, it's like Stargate meets Doctor Who filler for a good portion of the movie.

Purple hair lady certainly sucks but I thought that was one of the more lore breaking scenes in the movie. Absolutely terrible. Tho I admit it looked very pretty. I think it was just done for that pretty shot tbh.

Fanboys are upset that this movie isn't a rehash of ESB and isn't cliche and predictable like the ones before it. I suggest ignoring the fanboys that are mass trolling rottentomatoes right now and watch it for yourself.

The critics are right -- it's the best SW movie since ESB, if not better.

Anyway, IMDB has it at 8.1, with the same amount of user reviews.

Nostalgia goggles.

People seem to hate it because it was the middle film. As in they're expecting full arcs and complete resolution and permanent character development in the second movie of the trilogy as opposed to the third.

Snoke was a waste of a death though. So was Phasma assuming she really is dead.

But then again Boba Fett is the stuff of legend in star wars canon and got like 5 minutes of screen time in the original trilogy if I remember correctly. Stuff outside the movie made him dope right? Why is she immune?

And what's all the bitching about lore? Disney said from the jump they were scrapping it.
