I kinda lost some of my hype for this when I found out it doesn't have a dedicated story mode.

Yeah, why does it have a seemingly fairly developed storyline if it doesn't even have a proper single-player mode in which to tell it?

Unless they've realised how daft that decision was and gone back and added a narrative campaign.

Like, all of that from the trailer definitely looks like it was ripped from something, since it was so incomplete and left alot of things hanging or established other things

Smash Bros 4 had a bunch of trailers with no story mode in the game but they were all self contained. They didn't allude that there was something bigger going on like this Dissidia trailer did

is there seriously nothing in Dissidia?

Apparently theres no actual story mode, but you unlock story/cutscenes as you play the normal modes

So the story is based on some progression system

Aw I liked the Dissidia story mode [more or less]

What's a normal mode?

Pretty much everything else in the game

It sounds like you get points for everything and story unlocks as you hit point amounts

I can't imagine why they thought this was a good idea. its just strange

I guess they wanted to save time by not having to program another mode where you unlock the cutscenes in a mode where you playthrough a series of pre set up matches?

Ya know, story mode.

I don't think could've been that hard, especially if they have the cutscenes ready to go! Its just a predetermined arcade mode

Well, it would depend how many cutscenes/how much story they actually included. If its a lot, then theyd have to actually make a pretty lengthy arcade-style story mode at the least, or something like 012 at the most. They probably didnt feel like doing that and figured theyd implement the same idea (fighting gets you story) without actually chaining it to one mode that dictates how you play it.

Its an interesting idea. Curious to see how it ends up

I think the problem with that system is that there's (likely to be) a disconnect between what's happening in the story and what you're doing, and that's (likely) going to make it feel like you're not really involved in the plot.

As in, rather than seeing a setup for how two characters confronting each other is going to advance the narrative, and then playing that fight knowing the situation and what's at stake, you play a bunch of random fights and then "Meanwhile, in the story, other characters are actually accomplishing something".

It is a very interesting approach I think I like it just because I won't be chained to one mode I can play however I want

While this is true, I'm not overly worried. I've never felt involved in a fighting game plot. The characters that are supposed to win win and the characters that are supposed to lose lose regardless of what you actually do.

Fighting game stories may as well be movies to me.

I know that even if I beat Tekken with Steve, he didn't win the tournament or actually beat 90% of the people I beat

I guess after playing the two Injustice games recently, I just kinda expect a cinematic story from my fighting games now. Injustice 2 even had alternate endings, depending on who you picked at the end.

Yeah, I've never been a big fighting game fan, but the ones I have played a decent amount of are Injustice, the previous Dissidias and BlazBlue. I know they're not typical of the genre, but I'm kind of used to full blown narratives (and the fact that those games have them is part of what attracted me to them in the first place).

The original Dissidia story had you only controlling the heroes and defeating their villain counterpart.

It's not like most fighting game stories. And it was even pretty in depth and worth replaying for ITEMS and PERCENTAGE POINTS
