The Asian idol industry sounds like a terrible place to work.

Koreans think you can't complain and should be able to handle anything on your plate just because you're rich and famous.

There are literally many Koreans today who responded to the news of Jonghyun's suicide with "But why would he kill himself? He was famous!"

It's just sad.

And the general awareness and education on mental health is deplorable, where you're more likely to be publicly shamed for depression, along with a host of other issues related to mental health or learning disabilities, than you are to get the help you need.

Oh, and if you do receive help, it's put on your medical record. Which can be reviewed by companies looking to hire you. In a society that, as mentioned above, flippantly dismisses mental health issues.

It's a horrible cycle.

Yeah after watching tons of Korean media thanks to my parents... I feel as though there are next to no accurate portrayal or even acknowledgement of depression in Korea. It's either that it's just an accepted normal state of being that to live is just to live with depression or they don't care enough to deal with it. There's almost this "I got through it, why can't you?" attitude with Koreans that I absolutely deplore.

Honestly, I don't care for Koreans. I'm Korean, and sometimes I feel my natural mindset can be a bit scary, like I end up treating somebody in a very Korean way and I have to stop myself and rewind

I was a SHINee fan, they really got me into K-pop. it's how I came to love SNSD, BoA, and such.

Rest in peace, Jonghyun.

kinda thought they were doing pretty well... that or RV, exo and NCT started taking their place.

makes sense to feel left out when he seemingly only had music whereas the others had pretty big success in other areas like movies/TV.
