from what I understand about mahjong series from even a monkey can draw manga is that the entire point of mahjong series is watching players one up each other with progressively more mathematically improbable hands with the shock of the other players being represented by explosions and junk.

so actually learning to play might make it worse by knowing what they are doing wrong from a gameplay standpoint like someone who plays poker might roll their eyes at poker scenes in movies.
