I don't think that is how being a protagonist works

Only bait topics ask C/C. Especially if the question is so dumb.

yeah but they have to be a protagonist

darth vader isn't in the original trilogies enough to contest for that title

like the protagonist of waiting for godot isnt godot just because he is a pivotal plot-piece

I would say he's the main protagonist of 1-3 but not 4-6. He is the central character though in all 6 films though.

Episodes 1-3 are about Anakin's fall. Episodes 4-6 are about his redemption.

Qui-Gon arguably has more claim to being the protagonist of 1 than Anakin.

Nah.

Luke in episodes 4-6, though you coukd really make a pretty convincing argument that it was more an ensemble cast. Especially in 4.

It argue Obi-Wan is more the main protagonist of the prequels. Or at least of episode 1, while he shares the title with Anakin in II & III.

4-6 is definitely Luke though.

although I suppose a better formulation of what I'm saying is that 'the plot' of the movies isn't so much the external events that happen as it is the personal journey you follow characters through

like blowing up the death star is an important point but not because it means the empire is in a bad spot and the rebels are gaining ground, those are ancillary to the fact that luke is coming into his own and growing as a character

w/e though
