Didn't you get the memo? The official stance on this kind of thing is "fuck your white culture, if you have an issue with this you're a bigot".

If we're going to, as a society, stop lumping "white people" into one huge group then I think a lot of people would be happy with that if that's the direction your implying. But then you're going to have to accept that diversity can, in fact, be a room full of white males. You can't have it both ways.

In the hope that someone can address the clear contradiction being applied to white people rather than ignore it because it so blatantly exposes the hypocrisy of it all.

EDIT: To be more specific, if "white people" are one big lumped together group, then "white people" can play any other white person. If suddenly we're using "well he's not GREEK white, but GERMAN white" as an excuse to justify casting a black actor as a white historical figure, then you have to accept that white people aren't one large group but a diverse set of cultures, and therefore diversity has to be viewed from the lense of cultural heritage and not skin color.

Jesus Christ Superstar would never have worked if it were written today. "A BLACK Judas? They're pandering!" And on the other side, "How come the dude that betrays Jesus gotta be black??" iirc the Beeb doesn't really care for historical accuracy and makes no claim to do so when playing their fictional shows
they defend these kinds of choices because they have non-fiction shows as well where they do try to be as correct as possible

basically on the side of "you accept a story about a man who is invulnerable except on his heel, but his skin color is where you draw the line?"
I also see that this is being filmed in South Africa, but eh

they can take issue with the race of the actors, if they want, but a black actor and a white actor (who aren't Greek) don't add anymore to the culture than the other

I'm sorry? You were trying to claim that nobody took issue with Gods of Egypt for the reasons being brought up here. The movie tanking is at least partial evidence that audiences did, in fact, take issue with it. It's not 100% conclusive, but it IS evidence that people were less happy with the choices made than you were implying.

But hey, it's WAY easier to deflect from the point I made and run away than it is to address it, so bonus points for a good try.

No. There were actually black populations sparsely scattered throughout parts of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. This is actually pretty common knowledge.

Although it's probably doubtful that Achilles was historically black. But who cares? The history of Achilles is so heavily romanticized that the character as we understand him may be purely fictional.

That's a fair point. My point was more that a white person not being of greek culture seems only to matter when using it to justify why they are just as qualified as a different race, but if I said my company was diverse because it had greek, german, english, etc people... I would be accused of being full of shit for calling an all white group diverse. It's the double standard that gets to people, and less so that a fictional character is being changed to a different race. We all know that happens all the time. It's being told "this change is good/fine, but if you change a black historical character to a white one that's bad" where people tend to get upset.

This is the takeaway if your have the reading comprehension of a 3 year old. So I don't see the confusion myself but will simplify it for you just in case

TC is whining about his culture being violated and you made the super asinine post about the destruction of white culture (which is even funnier considering how you're now trying to paint yourself as a remotely rational person) because everybody is trying to be PC now or whatever it is you geniuses think.

I bring up Gods of Egypt as another example of this "destruction of culture" which unfortunately goes against that narrative, but essentially shows that all Hollywood cares about is money. Whitewashing in movies has been a thing for at least a couple if decades, always justified with "they're targeting a certain audience to make money", but now you get a few movies/shows of the opposite happening and suddenly it's an imminent destruction of white culture

But yeah I see how it's deflecting when you need a post to spell out obvious shit my b
