Thinking of picking this up as a last minute Christmas present, is it worth it? It looks really pretty, but hows the game play? From the videos Ive seen it looks fun, but I wanted some first hand opinions. It is more combat oriented or more story oriented? Is it anything like Mass Effect or Dragon Age?

I haven't played it, but i don't think it's anything like either of those games. Noclip just finished a great documentary on it, if you want to kill an hour.

Haven't played Dragon Age or Mass Effect, but I doubt it? It's definitely more action-adventure than it is RPG. No teams to manage, etc.

but Horizon: Zero Dawn is possibly my GOTY. I'd say it's pretty evenly story/combat. Like there's a great story there if you want it, but also a TON of stuff to do and a huge world to explore.

Gameplay feels excellent the entire way through, and there's a really nice difficulty curve so it never feels too easy or too overwhelming.

Amazing game that could have been a serious GotY contender any other year not named 2017.

The story stays solid throughout and is definitely among some of my favorites in a WRPG (actually only the Mass Effect trilogy and Planescape: Torment are better).
The open-world feels fresh but is not anything on the scale of a Xenoblade or BotW (nor does it even attempt to be). Both the gameplay and storyline is consistently good till the end and the combat IMO is definitely the highlight of the gameplay. The combat gives you so many different ways to tackle the wide variety of enemies in the game which keeps the experience fresh throughout.

I definitely recommend this game if anyone likes video games.

Combat is excellent, story is divisive. Overall it's pretty good but it has some serious flaws. World is beautiful. One of the rare games i 100% without feeling like it was a chore.

there is a lot of combat, but you can put it down to "Story Difficulty" if it's too much (because normal can be tough for non-gamers) and everything is cake

I would recommend that if it comes with Frozen Wilds

Horizon was going to miss my top 10 but Frozen Wilds saved it by having a more interesting open world and a story I found interesting
