It's an undeniable fact that majority custody typically goes to the woman, even if she is unemployed. Men are just forced to pay for a woman and another guy to raise his kid.

Why don't men get proper custody??

(I'm not involved in this, for the record.)

It's because of sexism forcing women to be typecast as the nurtering parent who gives up their job to raise the kids. Because women are the ones who actually took time to spend with the kids, of course custody cases favor them.

Maybe don't expect your wife to give up her job/ career for kids if you don't plan to put in a ton of effort to care for them as well.

Yeah it is. The kids should really have a say in who they want to spend the majority of time with.

So then you're saying that both parents should maintain their careers after having children, to maintain equality in the relationship?

Good idea, won't work. If you try that you're going to end up with seriously rotten kids with a ton of issues. Even if you're wealthy enough to afford a full time nanny for the kid, they're still going to have detachment problems growing up from the parents not being around as much as they should.

Hm. Maybe if women weren't expected to always be childrens' caretakers at the expense of everything else, and stay-at-home dads (and men around children in general) weren't stigmatized.

Almost sounds like there's a societal system enforcing this kind of thing, to everyone's detriment.

1. Nurturing*
2. You really think that's always the case? Even if so, that shouldn't guarantee more than 50/50 custody.

When you have a kid, that's your #1 priority. Going back to school or work at that point is disruptive to the way your kid grows up.

It's funny because most men I know want the mothers of their children to work so they can have more money for the family, but the women are the ones that want to stay home.

But again, this is just people that I know, but it's always like that. They want their wives to work, but they don't.

My wife is like this. She wants to stay at home with our son, but we aren't in the financial position for her to do so. Luckily, her grandmother babysits for us.

Maybe most women actually do want this for themselves, and aren't actually being typecast, or whatever, and are not being forced into it.

No strawmans here. TC said men paying their exes to take care of their child was the biggest form of sexism, and I agree. It explains why we never see men, especially divorced men with children, in positions of power.

Typing on the phone is annoying when it's freezing and the heater is not up to the job

And it is way more common than it should be. And usually mother's go back when the kid is old enough to be alone in the afternoon.

she wasn't always there growing up because of relationship problems with my dad.

So obviously giving the kids to the parent with a full time job is a terrible idea.
