Context.

Star Wars was a space opera. It was about showing off over-the-top spacey concepts and destroying a planet was within that scale. The casino/slave arc in 8 was just regular over-the-top, not space opera.

You know the concept of slavery isn't anything new to the franchise right? Its impacted key characters in both the OT and the PT so I'm not sure why it getting some focus in a C plot now is such a big deal.

i don't understand. if woman characters accomplish stuff it's pandering to the feminist agenda? if a woman has purple hair, that's the tumblr agenda?

I dont understand whats not to understand. I said that people complained about TFA having a feminist agenda, and I didnt see it. TFA had strong females and males alike, and there were plenty of accomplishments made by both female and male characters.

I have stated multiple times that my issues with this movie stem from every single female character being written as a borderline perfect hero with little to no blemishes on their work, while on the other side we have the men who are continuously portrayed as the sole causes of shit going haywire.

For fucks sake Im not complaining that Rey being a mary sue means that the movie had an agenda, Ive listed multiple different complaints that put together could be seen as an overt agenda.

This isnt boo hoo one woman accomplished one thing in a sea of successful men. This is oh hey all the men a weak failures and the women are heroes. Thats not a coincidence at all.

It's not really the slavery itself but the extreme lengths they went to contrast the hyper-rich hedonistic fat cats with the slaves. And the fact that the entire arc didn't end up having to exist at all so it was pretty much just a leftist wet dream for the sake of it. At one point either Rose or Finn said something like "yeah, but it felt pretty good to wreck up that place didn't it?"

I don't feel like her design was out of place in Star Wars necessarily but I feel like it was out of place as a general directly commanding a star cruiser.

I'm serious. Wearing a dress with a weird collar isn't what someone commanding a star cruiser would look like in my mind.

Holdo's design felt closer to Leia in ANH where she's on a diplomatic mission then captured (ignoring R1) or Mon Mothma in Jedi leading a briefing, not a front line cruiser commander.

No. Splashes of eccentricity is part of Star War's charm. Look at Chewie's shiny bandolier belt (despite his weapon not taking ammo), or slave Leia's bikini, or Luke's shorty robe, or Han's 'definitely not a German WW1 pistol'. It's little things like those that create a world that is equal parts believable and fantastic.

Now, I'm not saying unusual hair color = alien but if there had been more varied alien species in the backgrounds with rainbow colors as opposed to just the new norm of grey-brown, I think it would have stood out much less.

If there is a feminist/SJW agenda

OH MY FUCKING GOD.

If people tell any sort of story now it's some sort of conspiracy against conservatives. Why is that the side that is constantly throwing around accusations of censorship instantly condemn anything that tells a story they don't agree with?

"It's an SJW agenda! It's the feminists!"

Or maybe, you know, someone just wants to fucking tell a story about a badass Jedi who happens to be a woman.

I don't particularily care for romantic comedies. That doesn't mean I go rampaging around yelling about how they are pushing some sort of heterosexual marriage agenda.

Seriously, if you swapped out gays, blacks, or any other traditionally persecuted group into your argument, they would be exactly the same.

"That movie is just pushing the gay agenda!"
"That movie has a black hero? Clearly, they are pushing the black agenda!"

There is agendas, and then there is business that want to make money by appealing to the largest demographics to sell the maximum amount of their product. I would tend to think that a multinational conglomerate like Disney would fall into the latter category.

Assigning something like Star Wars some sort of moral agenda is paranoid at best, and delusional at worst. They want your money and they don't really care what you come out of the theater believing.
