I know that everyone on B8 has been waiting for me to do a gimmick run of a game from 1998 that no one cares about anymore except me, but I love this series. I'm curious how far I can get killing the minimum number of enemies possible without using any party. I've never tried this before, so I legit do not know the answer.

My stats are:
Elf - Wild Mage - Lawful Neutral - Str 10 / Dex 19 / Con 16 / Int 18 / Wis 10 / Cha 10
Proficiency: Sling

A pacifist wild mage? Is there not a risk that he/she might accidentally unleash devastating attack spells when you don't want to?

That's part of the challenge!

It's been harder than I expected so far. I'm sure it'll get easier when I get Invisibility, but for the moment I'm running away from gibberlings and getting no experience. Fortunately, I know where to find items in the environment, so I'm not hard up for cash yet.

Tarnesh the mage in front of the Friendly Arm Inn I had to "kill" by letting the guards kill him. I never did any damage to him, so it counts.

This may have been a mistake. I've barely been able to do any quests. The biggest thing I've done so far is grab two items of the three the spiders guard in Beregost. I couldn't get the third without killing at least one spider.

If you want a related but slightly less ridiculous challenge, I've heard that Planescape Torment can be completed without killing.

PST requires you kill at least two things, sadly.

Got a quest to fight a girl who surrenders halfway through. I can't decide if that counts.

Got a robe and a jewelry container by letting guys kill Neera and stealing her stuff.

Interesting class choice. Never played Baldur's Gate, but speaking generally, I would think a class like rogue would be better suited to this kind of thing. Or maybe a mage with persuasion or illusion spells.

I've soloed as Bard before but it relied heavily on abusing wands and recharging them via selling/rebuying and also stealing Algernon's Cloak to charm the shit out of everything

I've soloed the game many times as almost every class. This is just the first pacifist run I've done.

I chose mage because I knew it would be impossible to fight the final boss properly by myself at a low level (which I expect to be at due to the pacifism). My plan is to summon a bunch of monsters and pelt him with bullets.

Okay, this is just not going to happen.

There just aren't not enough places to get experience, I won't get to level 3 without killing at least something.

welcome to RPGs~

Very few games allow for pacifist runs. There's always something you have to kill eventually. Elder Scrolls games, in particular, were bad about this, giving you the illusion of that choice and then screwing you over at some point. Occasionally you could get creative with illusion spells or followers or some such, but that just meant having someone else doing your dirty work.

I considered that, but it breaks the spirit of things. I think it's possible to kill one two people in the game (the Nashkel Mines mage and Sarevok, and I'm not even sure the mage is necessary), and besides, I don't even know who I could kill that would raise my level to 3.

I mean yeah they may not technically be true pacfist runs, but it is pretty noteworthy for any game like this to let you get away with a single digit kill count.

I can't speak for Baldur's Gate since I've never played it, but for most other games you can't finish it without killing some enemies. A lot of planning still goes into it. For example, what is the minimum amount of enemies you could kill to get to level 3.

5k exp to get to level 3 as a Mage. That's quite a lot of killing unless there's some quests that give decent exp for only killing a few things

I've been trying to find all of the quests you can do without killing anything. There are virtually none, and the ones that exist don't give you much.

Alright. I've looked it over and it's impossible to reach level 3 by doing only the quests that don't involve killing something. I'm calling it: can't be done as a mage, probably can't be done at all.
