That was a pretty great twist that surprised me even though I had my suspicions from minor things I had read that something was up. I liked that it was more than "this is actually hell", it really caught me off guard that Michael was the architect of it all and that all the mistakes and machinations of it were planned. God his evil grin and laugh after Eleanor figured out it was so damn creepy!

This is a great show so far and I can't wait to dive into season 2. Wasn't expecting to even like it as much as I did, started off a little too generic sitcom-y with an afterlife twist but it came into its own mighty quick. Kristen Bell and Ted Danson are especially outstanding, but the entire cast is perfect. It almost feels like a lighter version of Lost sometimes with the flashbacks.

Lots of shows over the years tried to be "the next Lost" but I think this show is the closest to it. So it's interesting that you said that. I wasn't sure if I was alone in feeling that way.

Watched all of Season 1 in a single day a few months back. It's an incredibly well-structured, entertaining, and easy show to just flow along with. The twist at the end was insane, but so perfect and Ted Danson is incredible in his delivery. The endings of every episode are just addictive, too! So many good hooks from the note under the door to "I'm not supposed to be here either" to Adam Scott's arrival to taking off with the train... there's no stopping point!

I also love how despite how good Chidi and Tahani are in compass and deeds, they also show how they would end up in the bad place, but you don't necessarily connect those dots until later. Everything about it is just brilliant.

Ted Danson LITERALLY kicks a puppy into the sun in the first or second episode. But he's Ted Danson and it 'isn't supposed to be there' so its okay, but it's right there! Only bad guys kick puppies!!!

That evil laugh was amazing. Like how many years do you think Ted Danson had that laugh up his sleeve and nobody ever asked him to do it. Apparently it wasn't scripted either. That and Eleanor's 'Ya Basic' gets me every time.

I did guess the twist early but was kinda hoping I was wrong. The twist was a perfect way to freshen things up for season 2 as well, I'm only like 4 or so episodes into season 2 though

man I love Kristen Bell

but yeah Janet is just barely the best part

show's really fantastic

season 2 hasn't blown me away as much as season 1 did just because I guess it's not as surprising, but it's still very good

i like jason i just think there's a little too much, he crosses between believably stupid and so unbelievably stupid it doesn't even fit with a sitcom about fake heaven and fake hell

As someone who stopped watching season 1 halfway through during its network run, I am somewhat amused by this twist. I guess it does make sense now that I think of it.

I like Jason. He's not always believable but he's a fun guy

Never been a big fan of Tahani tbh, and I think she was the biggest hint that they were in the bad place for me. With how strict the requirements for getting in seemed to be, it was hard to believe someone so obviously self-centered had made it

i never suspected the twist and i doubt many people did -- they did too good a job of creating an actual problem to care about, there wasn't a lot of room to consider that things aren't what they seem, and ted danson is so good at acting the good guy

i think the thing that sells it as a good twist is that this show could have continued to exist and been compelling and funny even without the twist. like if the story they presented kept going, i'd still think the show is brilliant

I happened to catch watcing an episode of season 2 without realizing it was season 2, because I didn't know season 1 existed, so the twist was spoiled in effect for me. Still fun to go back and watch the first season.

And Janet is <3

I didn't get the twist in context of everything that was going on. I did call it early on in a "lol what if they were really in the bad place" shower thought but it wasn't really serious or based on anything I'd seen, so I don't think it really counts.

Love the show and every character though. Except Jason. He just goes too far into the realm of both stupidity and selfishness. I just don't believe he's a real person. I guess by tying him to Janet we are supposed to buy him being worth saving too but he's pretty completely irredeemable. Like the other characters might not be good enough to go to the Good Place, but Jason actually should go to the Bad Place.

Funny someone mentioned Lost. The creator Michael Schur mentioned he spoke to Damon Lindelof, one of the Lost guys, during the creation of the show. Though he revealed this back in 2016 before the first episode ever aired, so no one ever put it together then.

"Pretty early on, I called Damon Lindelof, who I knew a little bit," Schur said Thursday at the convention. "I took him out to lunch and pitched him the show and he was a very encouraging. Once I got encouragement from Damon and other people whose opinions I trusted, I said, 'OK I think I can try and pull this off.'"

Agree with this almost completely.

Tahani was the one I just couldn't buy actually being there.
