This arc has been somewhat of a return to form but being a One Piece fan has been an exercise in lowering my expectations so that I'm not constantly disappointed. (I don't really care for Sanji being a Toriko-esque chef either)

Yeah, still a great show, but could have been more. Felt like it needed to be longer. At the same time, there was no...filler? Everything mattered.

I do like it more than Gamers, so that's still an uptrend for Pine Jam for me. I'll be keeping an eye on them. NOT to worried about the animation hiccups, BRDs will likely take care of that.

I've started both Kemono Friends and Blend-S. Kemono is cutesy, and my favorite thing is that there are a lot of signs that there's something going on in the background. It's hard to explain the feeling I'm getting but I'm really intrigued by it so far.

I'm liking Blend-S a lot more, though. Maika being unintentionally sadistic is fun and I like all the characters. This isn't anywhere near the level of Squid Girl or Working!! in terms of comedies centered on a restaurant, but it's way better than New Game! in terms of workplace comedy.

Finished Made in Abyss

This show took a while (probably too long) to come into it's own. I wasn't feeling the first five or so episodes, but by the end I was really enjoying it. I think main problem with the show is that the two leads aren't strong enough characters to carry the show on their own, which is kind of critical for a show like this. (Though hopefully now that Nanachi has joined the party this may be fixed in the season 2 that I think has been confirmed?) They don't really play off of each other all that well in normal situations, and honestly I still don't care much about Riko at all. Reg is better but is still probably only my third favorite from the show.

That's enough complaining though. Although I was hesitant on the story at first, I did become pretty well invested in it as it became clear it was more involved than just "exploring a big hole with monsters". There were a few emotional moments also which was good. Atmospherically the show was really strong throughout. I liked how they make the abyss seem majestic and mysterious just as often as they do ruthless. When I started the show I was worried everything would just be them traveling through dark caves running from monsters, but thankfully that wasn't the case. Also I do like how raw and unforgiving the world is. I like that whenever they're put in danger the situation turns bad in the blink of an eye rather than...well something else. Also the show...shall we say...doesn't pull any punches when shit hits the fan. Think this was the first time I had to pause halfway through an episode and take a breather because I actually couldn't continue watching...

Didn't know where else to put this, but the soundtrack is really nice and contributes a lot to the atmosphere thing.

Overall a pretty strong show. I'm still not totally sure I see where the massive hype levels are coming from, but ultimately that doesn't matter since I still liked it a lot even if seemingly not quite as much as everyone else.

P.S. For a giant hole equated to hell on Earth supposedly filled with near-eldritch abominations, these monsters are surprisingly cute. My favorite was the moe giant plum in episode 9.

I just binged Masamune-kun's Revenge for some reason. I really enjoyed the first two thirds but then it fell apart spectacularly. It was like the story forgot what it wanted to be and what it became instead was awful. Specifically, it dropped the fun tsundere hate-turns-love plot the instant it introduced the imposter. Aki became an entirely different character who literally forgot all of the build-up she'd had with Masamune beforehand. Their interactions went from fun to just plain frustrating. What a waste of good plot.

Honestly the average quality of shows I've watched this year has been very good though. Even Masamune's Revenge I wouldn't say was a bad show at the end of the day, though the last couple episodes certainly put forward their best effort to convince me otherwise.

Also worth mentioning that #3 and #4 are extremely close right now and that might end up flipping whenever I submit my ballot for the AotY thing.

So I essentially had a friend actually do what I needed and argue against me with GLT. Because the ending DID essentially answer every complaint I had, and there were some things he went over and showed me that proves some things wrong. There's some things that remain unclear, and it's essentially the problem that the show is very unclear about its time frame.

That's literally what ends up becoming my only complaint after the argument overall, despite everything I had on it before. I don't think my score or rating can actually change without like a full rewatch where I know what I'm looking for... but I dunno if there's a point where I'm gonna care about doing so.

I don't think I was really upset. I basically wasn't watching anime then either. I could probably predict almost everything important that happened in the show because it had "this is gonna be painful obvious/boring/terrible" all over the description
