It reminds me a lot of Fleetwood Mac and it sounds incredible on the headphones I'm using at the moment (Audioquest Nighthawk driven by an LH Geek Pulse DAC/AMP). The imaging on Strength of Strings is superb. It does lack the emotional impact of some of folk's greats but is still a thoroughly enjoyable album. Best Track: Some Misunderstanding Favorited? I can definitely tell they had a huge impact on Primus and some degree of influence on Flaming Lips and Of Montreal, among others. As for the album itself, it's definitely interesting. Not really musical and I probably wont come back to it much, but there are a lot of unique sounds here. Best Track: Weight Lifting Lulu Favorited? I do prefer their newer pop sound. Being their first major label album, you can definitely tell they were figuring some things out. There is definitely some variability in the quality of the tracks, with some feeling a bit bare. But the lyrics are the standout of this album and it sounds much more mature on that aspect. It's as if the piano, the violin, and the drum machine are all a living character. I also love how the way he blends so many genres and paints them with a Japanese flair. I liked it so much that I gave the whole thing a listen both on headphones (Emu Purpleheart) and then on my stereo system (Marantz PM6006 -> QAcoustics 3050 towers) to get another flavor of it.
