The first film only had one minor cliff-hanger which was intentional because it was supposed to get the audience thinking. The second film COULD have been done in such a way that they didn't have to reference the cliffhanger in any way (basically leaving Decker out of it entirely), but they went for the lazy "nostalgia" route and basically destroyed the original film's cliffhanger. --- I am a senior software engineer.
