BAD MASKS:
Bremen Mask - Only exists to obtain the Bunny Hood
Kamaro's Mask - Only exists to get one heart piece
Keaton Mask - Only exists to get one heart piece
Postman's Hat - Only exists to get one heart piece
Mask of Scents - Reward for using it isn't really even worth the trouble
Don Gero's Mask - Only exists to get one heart piece, and this quest is extra fluffed out. 2nd worst mask in the game.
Romani's Mask - While this mask can be used to access arguably the best item in the game (Infinite magic meter), requiring a mask for this was unnecessary. The only other function of the mask is to acquire the literal worst mask in the game.
Garo's Mask - Unlocks the last area in Termina and then you can keep wearing it to spawn annoying enemies.
Circus Leader's Mask - Literally useless. It makes it easier to complete a quest you've already completed. Worst mask in the game by far.
All Night Mask - Only exists to acquire two heart pieces, which are acquired in almost the exact same way by talking to the same person.
Gibdo Mask - Talk to gibdos, which is one of the most tedious parts of the game. It also makes undead enemies non-hostile, but there are several masks which do this, so it doesn't make this mask special.
Couple's Mask - Only exists to acquire one heart piece.
Giant's Mask - Only useful for fighting one boss -- which might have still been cool if it gave you some kind of awesome unique combat ability to fight that boss with. But after you put on the mask, you fight him the same way you fight every other enemy. They literally just made the boss huge in order to give this mask a purpose.

GOOD MASKS:
Great Fairy's Mask - Tells you when a stray fairy is in the room and also makes you a magnet to stray fairies that aren't trapped.
Kafei's Mask - I almost put this one on the other list, because it's only used in one side quest. But it's the best side quest in the game, and I give them a pass for using up a mask slot for that.
Blast Mask - Running out of bombs isn't a problem. If you use your shield, it doesn't damage you, either!
Bunny Hood - Best mask in the game and I don't need to explain why.
Mask of Truth - Allows you to talk to animals and gossip stones. I don't find either of these abilities "fun" but the fact that the mask does give you an ability automatically makes it better than any mask in the "bad" list.
Captain's Hat - Unlocks 2 cool challenges and one terrible challenge. Also makes undead enemies non-hostile.
Stone Mask - Makes you invisible. Yaaayy!

Does anyone want to debate or dispute my opinion about any of these masks?

Mask of Scents gives amusing flavor from letting you see the silly places where the devs put mushrooms, plus a free blue potion every cycle if you want.

Romani's Mask still acts as the gatekeeper for Chateau Romani (other than the one-time-only bottle from delivering the Special Delivery to Mama), so, ya know, it's pretty useful.

And while there may not be any use in using the Bremen Mask and Kamaro's Mask outside of those specific locations, it's fun at times. They still give you a unique ability.

Gibdo and Garo masks are useful for hints if you're playing blind. Some of them are actually helpful.

Fair enough. I just think the amount of effort you have to go through to get that blue potion isn't worth it. I'd rather just pay 100 rupees. Unfortunately, you can't buy them until late game. I've never found blue potions very useful anyway.

Romani's Mask still acts as the gatekeeper for Chateau Romani (other than the one-time-only bottle from delivering the Special Delivery to Mama), so, ya know, it's pretty useful.

And I think using the masks as gatekeepers is dumb. Half the masks in the game were gatekeepers to a heart piece. Ugh. Make the masks fun to use!

And while there may not be any use in using the Bremen Mask and Kamaro's Mask outside of those specific locations, it's fun at times. They still give you a unique ability.

I would hardly call walking slowly while playing marching music an ability. Maybe the dance would have been cool if more NPCs reacted to it.

Gibdo and Garo masks are useful for hints if you're playing blind. Some of them are actually helpful.

Fair enough.

In the 3ds version, they added a quest with it that gives you a 7th bottle. But yeah, it's still pretty useless >_>

You also get bonus dialogue during the fight if you talk to King Ikana with it on

Mushroom in people's dirty underwear is hilarious, but blue potions are literally useless once you get the Romani Mask since you can get infinite magic power each cycle.

I still can't fucking believe the 3ds version doesn't make fierce deity link playable anywhere instead of just boss rooms.

Hell, he's even more useless in the overworld if you use the glitch to get him outside of boss rooms. In the 3d version, it literally hard crashes the game if you try to open a door with him >_> At least n64 versiom let you open doors lol

Yeah I meant to include that as well. BTW did you know you can also use the Bremen mask in that fight to make them march around?

Using masks as gatekeepers to items and heart pieces would be totally fine if they had given the masks fun abilities as well.

Don Geros mask could have let you jump further. They could have had masks that made you tougher or deal more damage. I know you can argue that there were already upgrade items that already do this. But thats why theres so much missed potential with the masks. Let the masks do these things instead of items. Why do we have a lens of truth in this game? Let a mask do that shit.

How cool would it have been to find a mask as an optional dungeon item? There are only 5 masks that are not found in either Clock Town, the Ranch, or in Ikana Valley. Masks could have been made more mysterious and awesome to find by not attaching each one to a quest where it was pretty predictable that a mask would be your reward at the end. Given that the masks were such a significant focus for the game, they should have been the central incentive that drove the player to explore Terminal. Look, a rock! Maybe if I bomb it, there will be a grotto under it that leads to a challenge where I can earn a new mask that does something awesome! But that almost never happens. It should have happened with almost every mask.

To be fair, is that much different from most items in most Zelda games?

You need them for the dungeon you find them in, and with a few exceptions (Bow and Hookshot mainly), they become useless once you defeat the boss.
