That's seriously unfortunate. Three-year-olds don't know any better. You can't really punish them for it. But what does the law do in this case? Do the parents face legal trouble? Do they have to pay for the damages? Does the kid grow up never knowing what they did, or will someone eventually tell them that they killed twelve people when they were three years old?

Unfortunately I think the kid will remember and carry it with him the rest of his life. 3 years old might have been too young to understand what he was doing was dangerous, but it's old enough to make memories of traumatic events like this.

The mother sounds like a complete moron, on so many levels. But I think proving neglect in this case is pretty hard. She didn't leave the kids home alone etc. Just because the kid was in the kitchen alone doesn't prove neglect.

But they also found out the kid had a habit of playing with the stove. Any competent parent should realize a child that young who plays with a stove should not be allowed in the kitchen alone.

I know, that's why I said maybe neglect. And I only even say maybe because of how it mentions him being alone with the stove after having a habit of playing with the burners.

Either way I doubt she'll actually be convicted of anything. If anything probably just mandatory counseling for the kid and cps check ups for a while.

Nothing of legal consequence. I'm sure the poor kid will have guilt problems later down the road. Even adults and teens have accidentally set things on fire.

Charges may be brought against the parents, but I would imagine a social worker would look at the situation first to see if the accident is a result of the parents' neglect. If not, then it's probably doubtful charges will be filed against anyone.

It's tragic, but accidents like this aren't necessarily anyone's fault.

Death penalty, only way to take care of a killer baby. Look at the shooting death rates from toddlers. We have to deport them while we have a chance.

Most houses I've been in don't have doors on the kitchen. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a kitchen with doors in my life.

One of the reasons there is usually not a door to the kitchen itself is that people may need both hands to carry pots and trays and stuff out of the kitchen

I only see like those restaurant type doors that swing in kitchens on TV and in movies.

Nothing. The kid will probably retain some memory of it when they get older. I mean I can remember stuff from 3. So he'll probably be a basket case later on in life.

Really? Apart from open plan kitchens, I haven't seen any without doors. The doors are hardly ever shut, but they exist.

I've seen some on tv, but kitchen doors are not common to my knowledge unless it's a door that goes outside.

I blame the mother, but there will be no charges laid here. The 3 year old is acting like a 3 year old. The mom should have had better supervision of him.
